the end of summer was approaching but not calmly. the last few weeks of july were sweltering hot, reaching a record high in the past decade.
fortunately, that was around the time i'd finished my camp so tobio and i could spend lots of time together.
unfortunately, that meant my brother would meet my boyfriend.
mizuki: so we're on for tomorrow right?
tobio: yeah.
mizuki: you okay?
tobio: yeah.
mizuki: ...no you're not.
tobio: well do you blame me? he means a lot to you, right?
mizuki: yeah. but how does that matter?
tobio: that means his opinion of me matters a lot. i want to make a good impression.
i smiled a little at tobio's words. my heart swelled in love, and i bit my lip.
mizuki: tobio, i promise u that u don't need to worry too much. it might surprise u, but onii-chan already thinks quite highly of u.
tobio: huh? how could he?
mizuki: you'll see.
the next day, i woke up really early from the heat. groaning a little, i trudged over to the back of the house and opened the doors all the way to get as much air into the house. then, still in my pajama shorts and tank top, laid down on the cool porch.
i eventually fell asleep like that, and woke up to both tobio and onii-chan staring at me. tobio with a blushing red face, and onii-chan smirking down at me with his phone camera pointed directly at me.
"wha- i- WAIT, NO." i bolted upright, looking from one to the other, trying to assess the situation. i narrowed my eyes at tobio, wondering why his face was-
gasping so sharply i coughed a little, i crossed my arms over my chest, just realizing how thin and tight my tank top was and how i really had to not be wearing a bra now. when tobio realized my actions, he blushed even harder and looked away, causing onii-chan to cackle loudly.
"you're really embarrassed about that, you two? i really thought you two had already done it..." he grinned a little at me, and i stood up to grab the nearest couch pillow and pound him with it.
"um, sorry for all this." i said to my boyfriend as i hit my brother with the pillow. "i really hope you haven't been here long. it's just so hot and i got distracted out here." throwing the pillow aside quickly, i ran towards the bedrooms. "wait for me as i get ready, okay?"
throwing on the clothes i'd chosen the day before, i cringed at how careless i'd been. my face burned still. it wasn't like we hadn't done stuff yet. it was just... awkward. with my brother right there.
i took a deep breath, hoping onii-chan didn't do anything else.
the moment i saw mizuki's brother, my first thought was how similar their eyes were. and it wasn't similar in color or anything. or i mean, they were the same color, but that wasn't what stood out to me.
it was the deep sharpness in them. the way they seemed to twinkle and spark despite the darkness of it. it was mesmerizing in a way, and i just immediately knew that they must be incredibly similar in personality as well.
