finally it was the end of the day, and i packed up my books quickly before rushing out the door and down the stairs to the music room at the far corner of the campus.
it was the end of the day. and i needed to go work with that dumbass of a girl, otherwise i wouldn't get a good enough grade to go to the match with nekoma next week.
the music room was like a safe haven for me. even though we'd only been in high school for about a month, it quickly became my favorite classroom. i spent almost as much time there as in my regular classrooms, which was unusual because i didn't even participate in the assigned and official music classes. yoshioka-sensei was the music teacher, and i knew him well. he was always kind enough to lend me the classroom whenever i wanted to because he knew how hard i've worked on my skills and wanted to help me in my musical endeavors.
i walked out of the classroom, internally grumbling to myself as i headed down the hallway slowly. suddenly, a quick flash of orange appeared out of nowhere and into my field of vision.
"KAGEYAMAAA!!" hinata yelled, launching himself at me, sending both of us toppling to the floor in the middle of the hallway. we got multiple stares and glares from students, but luckily no teachers were nearby.
"oi! hinata-boke, what the hell are you doing??" i pushed hinata off of me to stand up myself, picking up both my gym bag and school bag. "you have to come to practice now!! i want to work as much on the new quick as possible!" hinata jumped up and down, his voice loud and stood out from the commotion of the hallway.
i turned my head down, averting hinata's eyes. i knew hinata would be annoying and pestering if he knew i was skipping practice to work on something with a girl. but i had to tell him anyway.
"i... uh. i need to work on a japanese history project with my partner." i mumbled as i started to walk away. hinata made a big "hAAhHHH" and followed me, his steps twice as fast to keep up.
"you're putting up with someone else AND skipping practice for this person?? who are they and how did they learn to control you like that?!" he said exasperatedly. i scowled and hit hinata on the head letting out a bonk.
"shut up! i... i just need this for my grade..." i grumbled. but really, was it because of his grade? something about this takagi mizuki intrigued me despite how annoying she was.
no. i shook my hand, clearing my thoughts. i just needed my grade to focus on volleyball. i didn't need distractions like this strange and rebellious girl.
hinata was pondering beside me, but then gasped and stood in my way, blocking my path. "is this person... a GIRL?? is that why you didn't say no to her??" hinata's eyes were wide and surprised, like the idea of a girl having power over me was the biggest idea in the world.
my cheeks started to flush and i glared at hinata, launching my hand to bonk his head, harder this time. "no! boke! well, i- i mean, yes. she is a girl. but it's not because she's a girl that i didn't say no! i need this to attend the practice match, and that's it."
"ite..." hinata rubbed his head, but had a smirk on his face as he stopped in front of me again. "tell me, kageyama-kun... who is this girl? and i really think you have a different feeling towards her than you may think..."
i gave him a glare and looked away, forging on down the stairs. "she's in my homeroom. her name's takagi mizuki." i said, not meeting hinata's eyes.
"ah! mizuki-chan!" hinata's eyes sparkled at the mention of her name. "natsu and her little sister are best friends, so we hangout sometimes too! she's also friends with yachi-san, and she's actually some prodigy." hinata finished his ramble only to look back to me who had stopped in my tracks, a shocked look on my face.
