when i saw her fall to the floor, her eyes shutting closed before she hit the ground, blue dress floating around her, and long hair draping across her shoulders, i thought she looked like an angel falling from heaven.
i ran from across the lobby, hoping i could catch her before she dropped to the floor, but i didn't make it in time. so instead, i held her in my arms, and nervously tried to wake her up. "takagi-san! can you hear me??" damn it. this was bad. i was never good at this, it was always suga-senpai and shimizu-senpai who knew what to do in these situations.
my face was burning as i felt her bare shoulders on my hands. why did she overexert herself by coming back to me? like i saw just now, she needed rest after. and she knew it too. so why...?
"excuse me! you! let me handle this, please." a loud voice interrupted my thoughts, and i stood away as the security guard i saw standing outside the dressing room came over and picked takagi up almost effortlessly.
he muttered something about her being stupid and began walking back the way i came, not even giving me another glance. i needed to say something. she came back for me, so that must mean something. "sumimasen! can i, uh. can i make sure she'll be okay?" i asked awkwardly, my face still red hot.
the security guard looked at me confusedly, but nodded and we both walked back to the dressing room.
when we got back, sakurajima-san was in there on her phone, with a bag in hand like she was waiting to leave. but when she saw me and the security guard enter with takagi-san unconscious, she gasped and seemed pissed, to my surprise.
"ahhhhh... i knew it'd be bad, but she didn't even make it-" she didn't finish her sentence and just motioned towards the sofa. "you know the drill, azumi-kun." wordlessly, the security guard placed takagi on the sofa and nodded at both of us before exiting the room.
i stood there, staring at takagi, wondering if she was okay. turning to sakurajima-san again, i said, "um. sorry for appearing here again. it's just, i was about to leave but then takagi-san came running into the lobby and just yelled my name. when i turned around, she was falling to the floor." i scratched the back of my neck, confused. "i think she wants to tell me something, so i followed them back. is it... okay? for me to just stay here until she wakes up?"
sakurajima-san had an amused look on her face as she ran a towel under cold water at the sink."of course. but you don't have to. i know it's late. by the way, where are you staying tonight? i can't imagine you going back now, right?" i tugged at the straps of my gym bag across my shoulder. "probably a capsule hotel. but i really don't mind staying here."
she looked at me with a strange look on her face as she walked over to takagi with the towel, gently placing it on her forehead. "you know what? if you're so determined on waiting for her to wake up, do you mind us going back to her hotel? her parents aren't with her this time due to work, and i unfortunately can't stay with her because my boyfriend is waiting for me." she gave me a sweet smile. "can you keep her company until she wakes up? i'll drive you both."
i had a shocked look on my face at her words, but gave a slight nod. "uh. sure."
and that's how i found myself next to an unconscious takagi mizuki in an empty hotel room. yes, i was uncomfortable.
ugh. my head felt fuzzy.
i made a "mmmmph" sound and cracked an eye open. huh? i was in the hotel room? what happened to the hall? what happened to-
OH. oh.
i remembered running towards kageyama. i remembered calling out his name-WITHOUT HONORIFICS-then just collapsing to the floor. how long was i out? did i just come here alone? where was yui-nee? where was-
