telling the team

(early june)

it didn't take shoyo too long to catch on that we were dating.

especially because the monday after the performance, he would not stop bothering kageyama about how it went and what happened.

i kept ignoring him since i wasn't sure if it was okay with mizuki to tell hinata yet. i didn't want to screw it up, wanted to treasure this.

but after a few days i was getting fed up of hinata's pestering and finally asked mizuki if it was okay to tell him.

so the day after, i practiced in the music room until volleyball practice was over, but instead of walking home myself, went to find kageyama and the rest of the team instead.

they weren't completely finished yet, so i peeked my head inside to see all of them packing up and putting things away.

i saw yachi-san and walked over to her.

she put down the volleyball she was holding and turned to me with a smile on her face. "oh hi, mizuki-chan! it's so nice to see you here. were you practicing?"

when i nodded, she smiled and asked me if i needed anything. i just gave a nervous laugh and said i was waiting for kageyama.

"huh? kageyama-kun? that's a bit of a strange request from you. did he do something bad? are you tutoring him? if so, that's really nice of you-"

"um. no. we're dating." i whispered to her, laughing a little.

yachi.exe. has crashed

she didn't even get a chance to recover before the rest of the boys had noticed that another girl was now in the gym.

nishinoya and tanaka immediately came over and started hitting on me and looking at me, as i awkwardly tried to say hi and back away at the same time. i backed up right into a very still (and a little irritated) kageyama. he immediately and almost reflexively placed his hands on my arms protectively and to steady me.

i sighed a bit when i realized it was him. "oh. finally i found you, tobio." i said, looking up at his still face.

everyone was very surprised because a) i (a stranger and quite pretty girl) was looking for kageyama of all people, b) he was now holding me slightly, and c) i called him by his first name.

lots of things started to happen.

nishinoya and tanaka were frantically asking kageyama if i was his girlfriend.

yamaguchi and tsukishima were having their own conversation probably making up theories of who i really was and what my actual intentions for kageyama were (lol).

yachi still hadn't recovered from what i had told her and kind of just stood there with her eyes wide and mouth open. shimizu-senpai stood next to her, anxiously waving a hand in front of her face.

suga smiled to himself because he knew who i was ("ah, so this is takagi-san. she's too pretty for kageyama.")

daichi was asking suga if he knew anything, kind of concerned.

and hinata was thinking really hard, gears turning above his head, until finally he made a large "OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH" sound that silenced everyone in the gym.

"YOU GUYS ARE TOGETHER NOW, AREN'T YOU??"

i felt kageyama's grip on me tighten a bit, before he dropped his hands and looked to the side. i felt my heart sink as he did so. ah. so that's what he thought, huh?

but then he suddenly grabbed my hand, a little too roughly as i winced, but loosened his grip and interlaced our fingers quickly.

my heart was beating out of my chest, but strangely, feeling her warm touch calmed me down at the same time.

"y-yeah. we're dating now. everyone, this is my girlfriend: takagi mizuki."

wow so everything's quiet now.

nishinoya, tanaka, yamaguchi, and tsukishima are all quiet because THE KING GOT A GIRLFRIEND?

daichi asked the one thing everyone was wondering: "um. takagi-san, are you okay? he must be incredibly lucky. were you forced into this?"

i blinked once, registering the question slowly. i looked at everyone wondering if they all really thought of him this way. but then i smiled and looked at our hands still together.

"i mean, yeah. i'm okay. we're okay. and of course i wasn't forced into this. i really, really like tobio. i actually think that i'm the lucky one, since i never really thought of myself getting a boyfriend, much less such a talented one."

we were both blushing, and kageyama gently nudged me. "oi. don't say such embarrassing things."

everyone was still really shocked because really, the idea of anyone wanting to be in a romantic relationship with kageyama was just unbelievable.

as kageyama, hinata, and i were walking home, hinata was just a jumping ball of energy.

"so who confessed to who first??"

"haha, who do you think?"

"honestly, i don't know. both of you are pretty stubborn. but if i'd have to guess, it'd be you, mizuki-chan. you seem more in sync with your emotions."

i laughed at this. "nah. it took me a bit too long to realize my feelings for tobio." i glanced at him, the sunset causing a soft glow on his features. "but i'm glad i could finally tell him." i said quietly.

tobio glared at shoyo. "anyway. since you know now, stop bothering me." hinata just grinned and got on his bike.

"you know i can't do that! oh yeah, by the way, mizuki-chan. natsu is at your house with mika-chan, so i'll run over and grab her now! you and kageyama can take alllll the time you want!"

maybe it was just the sunset, but kageyama's face was slightly red.

"tobio?"

"yeah?"

"i liked it when you held my hand just now. can we do it again?"

his blue eyes staring on me made me self conscious, but i stared back at him anyway.

her eyes seemed to enhance the warmth of the colors behind her, and her hair flowed in the wind effortlessly. how could i ever say no to her? how was she even with me at all?

he took my hand and gently squeezed it, his dark blue eyes turning straight ahead.

"y-yeah. you don't have to ask, you know..."
