Lori was too busy playing with Manovus's flaming mane to notice the ring of magical horses staring pointedly at her. She looked up and looked at the unblinking eyes surrounding her. Lori let go of the flames and stood quietly.

"Sorry, I missed that." Lori said dropping her head.

"We have reason to believe that there are dark times ahead, the horses cannot overcome these times alone. We require your assistance, Lady Lori." Ulysses repeated.

"But what help will I ever be? I don't have magical abilities or physical enhancements. It's just plain old me." Lori said sadly. "I'm just a normal human being. Why choose me?"

"I don't believe that is the case. Why don't you talk to Avis. She will have the answers to your questions." Mea replied, stepping to her side.

"The sun is rising, we cannot be in these forms during the day, we will make contact with you when we have further information." Captiosius said uneasily. He began turning around, the others following behind.

"But I have more questions!" Lori called after the watchers as they left.

"Talk to Avis! She will help you!" Mea called over her shoulder.

"Wait!-" Lori went to follow them but a bolt of white light blinded her and she was knocked to the ground with a squeal.

When she opened her eyes again she was in her bed with the covers up to her ears.

She scrambled out and peered between her curtains. The barn looked no different than any other night she gazed at the stars.

All the horses were in their stables and everything was quiet. She closed the curtains and curled back into bed.

She lay staring at the ceiling, reliving the amazing experience she had just witnessed.

"My horse is a unicorn. With WINGS!!!!" Lori squeaked into her pillow. Then she remembered there were other people sleeping in the house and silenced herself.

The next few hours were sleepless.
Why didn't I notice the horses re magical? Maybe there has never 'danger'. Who is Avis? Weird name really. What if the danger will come to get me? Loris thoughts spilled to the front of her brain.

"Hush, child. No harm will come to you tonight." Captiosius's soothing voice echoed though her mind, silencing her troubles.

Lori yawned and sleep finally swept over her.
