I rolled over and stared up at the floral ceiling. Another day in the Devildom. I had really enjoyed my day with Lucifer yesterday but some of the things he said and the way he worded them were running through my head. The way he began his arguments for being my husband; he always started with how I should choose him because he would be the best ruler for the Devildom, not that he would make the best husband or that he loved me. Call me naive or silly, but I want to marry someone who loves me. Not just someone who wants the position that comes with it. And then my mind was drifting to Satan again, thinking about how he always put me first and how he would always try to make me happy and comfortable above all else. Who knew that learning to rule the Devildom would be the easiest part of this? There were pros and cons to Satan and lucifer, but in the end I knew I needed to make the best decision for me and for the people. Sighing, I heave my legs out of bed and get change out of my pyjamas. I had another long day of RAD today, as well as some clothes fittings and probably something else I'd forgotten about. Tying up my (h/c) hair I walk over to my door, ready for breakfast. I was about to open my door, ready to face another day of the brothers when I noticed an envelope on the floor, the royal stamp adorning the back. Picking it up I ran my finger over the stamp. It looked authentic alright. I ran my finger under the flap and opened the envelope, revealing a short handwritten letter;

My dearest Lady (y/n),
I believe now it is time to start preparing. Next month you will have your final lessons on ruling the Devildom, meaning it is almost time for you to take your place as queen. At some point this week, I will send some servants of the castle to visit you and they will discuss with you the plans for your room, as well as helping to transfer your belongings. I must also ask that you meet with me soon, in order to discuss your wedding - it is to my knowledge that you are yet to settle on your partner, I hate to press you my Lady, but it is of utmost importance that you decide within the month who you will choose to be your husband.
I will speak to you again soon, and please feel free to visit or write me if you have any concerns,
Kind regards,
Barbatos

Wow. I guess I hadn't realised how little time I had left. I pushed my door open and started down the hall, breakfast being the only thing on my mind. But, as I was turning the corner for the stairs, I bumped into none other than Satan.
"Oh Y/N! I was just coming to see you, I was wondering if you wanted to go for a walk with me today? We could have a picnic or something?" Satan was blushing, his hand scratching the back of his neck. Why was he so nervous? "I mean I understand if you don't want to..." his voice trailed off as I peered up at him,
"I'd love to Satan."
"Oh okay, thanks Y/N, um I guess I'll see you in a bit?" He began to make his way back down the corridor, but I reached out and grabbed his arm. He spun round to face me, the blush still lingering on his cheeks, "are you okay Y/N?"
"Why are you so nervous Satan?"
"I'm not nervous Y/N what are you going on about?"
"I can tell you are! Talk to me Satan or I'm not going out with you today! You trust me don't you?"
He looked up at me, his bright green eyes baring into mine. He's never been nervous around me before, he's the avatar of wrath for goodness sake!
"I'm competing with Lucifer Y/N, that's why I'm nervous. I'm part of him, not even fully a demon. And now I'm competing against him for you. And he works so bloody hard, and he has so much power, and I never stand a chance against him for anything, but for once in my life, I think I might have a chance against him. I'm nervous because I love you, and I don't have half the power or influence Lucifer has, but I love you and that will never change."
I was take aback. It was true that Lucifer always came out on top, but I didn't realise he was so worried. It showed me how much he cared for me though, and that made me so happy. I leant up on my toes, planting a small kiss on his lips, "I love you too Satan".

~~ lil time skippy ~~
Satan took my hand leading me out of the House of Lamentation. He was wearing his classic casual clothes and had a rucksack on his back full of all our picnic bits. "Where are we going?" I turned to look up at him as he lead me away from the town.
"Somewhere you haven't been before"
Trust the book nerd to take me somewhere I hadn't been before. I've been here 2 years and there were still so many places I hadn't seen. I was expecting another wooded area in all honesty, so when I was greeted with an open field, I was taken aback once again. You could see the dark sky looming in the background, and the town off in the distance, Diavolo's, or my, castle standing out off in the west.
"Satan, this view!" I exclaimed, spinning  round to see that he had laid out a blanket and set out our food.
"Haha I'm glad you like it Y/N, sometimes I like to come here just to read and look out on the town". I could tell why he liked it.
I sat down on the blanket opposite him, absolutely starving. Just as I was about to pick up a sandwich, I felt arms around my waist as Satan pulled me onto his lap, I let out a small squeal, but Satan was just laughing. I did feel relaxed though, it's crazy how being so close to someone can make you feel so calm. Starting again I tried to pick up a sandwich, success! I handed one to Satan and we just sat and ate and listened to the sound of the world around us. At some point Satan must have finished, because I felt my hair being untied and his hands running through it. This was beautiful. He hadn't once mentioned that he would be the best king, he was putting all his efforts into me. I turned around to face him, "I do love you you know" I said, "you always put me first and make me so happy". Satan smiled down at me, placing a kiss on my forehead. "I'm glad you like it, I've never loved anyone as much as I love you Y/N".

Slowly we made our way through the food, chatting about anything and everything. "Come on Y/N" Satan spoke up, "let's go for a little wander before we head back home". We packed up all our stuff, and Satan and I continued across the field. I was so happy, I felt free of work, of trying to find love. I began to run ahead of Satan, twirling and dancing, feeling as though I was in a movie. Fully in the moment. As I began to get dizzy, I stopped twirling, looking back to see Satan following after me, laughing as he drew closer. We were quite far from the city now, the world getting quieter. I carried on slowly, until I noticed a patch of colour just ahead of me. I walked closer, Satan having caught up and now right behind me.
"Wow! Satan look at these flowers!" I exclaimed, I hadn't seen anything like this growing naturally in the Devildom, only in the castle. The patch seemed to go on forever, and so I followed them further.
"They're gorgeous aren't they Y/N? They started growing thousands of years ago, so I've read. They're really important to the Devildom, they were given to us by the Celestials and they help to keep the balance between light and dark here".
We walked further and further, the different colours of the flowers vibrant against the dark grass. Eventually, the colours faded out as the patch cam to an end. I turned around then, ready to head back home with Satan, but when I looked at him I noticed his face had turned pale and blank.

Satan POV
"What's wrong, Satan?" I could sense Y/N looking at me, but I couldn't take my eyes off it. The flowers, they were dead. "Satan what is it?" I could hear the uncertainty in her voice,
"It's the flowers, Y/N"
"What about them?" She turned back round to look at them, I heard her sharp intake of breath when she noticed. It wasn't that there were no more flowers, it was that the ones that were there were dead. Hundreds of them.
"What does this mean?" Her voice was wavering.
"It means we need to get you home"
