A few days passed and (y/n) had gone back to living normally. She finished school, headed for work, spent the rest of the night looking at newspapers, online latest criminal records' websites and crime involving movies.

Surprised to see that over the same few days, multiple inmate criminals, abusers and offenders were dying. For some reason she didn't consider all of this a coincidence.

She woke up from a dream she couldn't remember anymore, brushed her teeth and threw her uniform on her bed. She made pancakes while waiting to fill her bath tub with hot water. She stuffed herself and showered. She put on her mask, fake thick glasses and locked her apartment as she walked out.

She yawned widely while walking herself towards the school. Her eyelids still felt heavy and she rubbed them while entering her classroom. She sat herself on her chair while waiting for the first period teacher to come.

Light sat two chairs away from her. He opened his books and revised for the class. Just as he noticed (y/n) he recognized her from few days before. He was interested in her since not many girls stood up against a gang of bastards. He glanced at her, trying to make out her face features but she managed to hide them well. She had her face hidden behind her (h/c) locks.

(y/n) felt someone's eyes on her and she turned her head towards Light. He averted his gaze naturally but (y/n)'s gaze did not leave his place. He glanced at her again wondering why she wasn't looking away.

She had a mortified look on her face. For the first time, he saw all of her face. Her glasses were slightly lower than usual, hair still against her face but a little pushed back and her eyes on, not him, but something beside him.

(y/n) concluded that she was going crazy or she's hallucinating because of fatigue. What she saw just now was something that would've sent any normal human running home, running for his life.

It was a creature. At first glance, it didn't look at her but when she stared a little too long, her eyes locked with that of his dark, lifeless ones. She looked away, cursing for staring too much. She rubbed her eyes and peeked again and there it was, just casually leaning against the window. His pale grey skin shone because of the sunlight, his dark feathers that oddly hugged his shoulders were fluttering because of the morning breeze and his earrings were making a small clinking noise.

It noticed her staring again making her look away. She started feeling sick, rather uncomfortable. It's presence affected no one except her. That means I'm hallucinating right?

She suddenly stood up, startling the teacher in front as well.

"I'm not feeling very well, can I go to the infirmary?" she asked, making a few students giggle behind her.

"Do whatever you want," the teacher said and continued with the lecture.

Almost all the teachers were aware of her situation. Her 'poverty' and the fact that she's an orphan made many teachers resent her. She wasn't poor, in fact, her parents had left quite a lot of money and the orphanage she used to live in were still providing well for her school tuition and daily expenses. She just didn't want to repeat her past mistakes and hence liked to make people repel her. She spent the least amount of money on her looks and belongings while she used the rest for something else.

She strode out and towards the infirmary after sneaking one last glance at the creature that stood next to Light Yagami.

"Hm, interesting," he said. Light ignored this small comment the creature passed.

"Oh right, you can't speak to me," he said, chuckling. "Well, did anyone pick or touch the death note before you?"

Light scribbled 'NO' on his book.

"Then how is that girl able to see me?" the creature continued as he walked back and forth.

Light's eyes widened. He scribbled something on his book again making the creature lean in to see.

'WHAT DO YOU MEAN? SHE CAN SEE YOU!?'

"Yeah. She's been, without a doubt glancing at me for the past twenty minutes."

Light tapped his pen against his notebook, restlessly waiting for her to come back but she didn't.

Of course she wouldn't come back. She saw the death god. Any normal human would be terrified, he thought and started to think about how he was going to confirm that (y/n) could see the death god, Ryuk.

The lunch bell rang and Light went to the infirmary. He had expected (y/n) to be shivering or cowering and crying but to his surprise she was pretty alright. He drew the curtains apart and what he saw appalled him.

(y/n) sat there with her legs stretched out, her phone in her hands with the earphones plugged in. Her usual (h/c) hair that fell over her face was now tied up in a bun. Her thick lens glassed were pushed up and sitting on her head. She was in a fit of laughter when she noticed Light enter. He stared at her momentarily. She looked nothing like the girl that entered class this morning. She looked beautiful. Her smile was contagious. Light could feel his cheeks heat up as he stared at this newly discovered form of (y/n).

(y/n) quickly pulled her glasses down and loosened her hair as she unplugged her ears. Her face was now back to being stoic and expressionless and she stuffed her phone in her blazer as she tried to walk out.

Light blocked her and said with a stretched arm towards her, "My name's Light Yagami."

"I know," she said, looking at him and ignoring his stretched out hand.

"And your name is?"

(y/n) hesitated. She felt something was off. The popular guy asking her name, out of the blue. She answered anyways, not seeing the harm in it.

"(y/n) (l/n)."

"I came to check up on you," Light said, inching towards her.

"Okay? I'm totally fine, thanks. Bye," again trying to leave but this time blocked by Ryuk. She stopped, suddenly her breathing was uneven. She gulped and looked at Light who had soft yet shady smile. That's when (y/n) realized. Light could see him too.

She plopped back on the infirmary bed and sighed.

"So you can see this thing too?" she asked, looking at Light through the rim of her glasses. Her firm (e/c) gaze piqued Light's interest even more. He smirked and said, "Yeah, I can. But you seem pretty calm for someone who just saw a death god."

Light was surprised that he was casually running his tongue in front of her. But he also knew that there was no point in lying or hiding anything from her. This was something Light would never have done.

"Well, it's true that I thought I'd gone crazy or I was hallucinating but I've seen worse before so I could calm myself down real fast," (y/n) said casually.

"You've seen something worse than me?" Ryuk asked. (y/n) flinched upon hearing his voice.

"You can talk?"

"I am the death god after all. Why wouldn't I be able to?" Ryuk asked, slightly offended.

"Sure," (y/n) mumbled and turned to Light. "Do you know why we're able to see him and not others?"

"Because we both touched the death note. Well, you touched it but I'm the actual owner," Light said.

"You mean that black book that fell out of the sky? That wasn't a prank?"

Light shook his head and sat down next to her while (y/n) was suddenly pleased at the surprising turn of events her boring life had taken.
