You woke up in an unknown chamber, it was all fairly dusty with very little light to illuminate your surroundings. You looked around the area and saw Dazai chained up to a stone slab next to you. You moved your hands and realised you were in no better position than he. You used your shoulder to wipe your eyes a little, trying to rid yourself of the sleepiness.
"Good morning, sleepyhead." Dazai smiled at you, his face was bashed and bruised. He wasn't wearing his signature brown coat, his clothes were dishevelled and the bandages around his arms became more noticeable. "Welcome to the world of the wake."
"What happened to you?" You asked in a broken voice. You hated the man, you despised him. But just seeing a man so broken and beaten made you sick to the stomach.
"An old subordinate came by and gave me a warm welcome."
"Akutagawa?" You didn't know why you'd said that, there were hundreds of people in the Port Mafia according to the Vagabonds. So you had no clue what possessed you to ask that.
"Yes, actually." Dazai answered, voice coloured with surprise. His eyes looked more dull than usual, tired even. You vaguely remembered the small girl who captured you, her face wasn't in the light so her features were fairly hidden. You could only remember blue eyes and dark hair. In front of you was a row of steps that lead to – what you guessed to be – the outside world.
"Where are we?"
"One of the Port Mafia's main bases: Rockjill island." He explained slowly. "This is the torture chamber."
"Why are we here?" You inquired, "What could the Port Mafia possibly want with us?"
Dazai shrugged his shoulders with a bored look, "No idea."
You eyed him carefully, his posture wasn't slouched in the slightest, he wore an expression that seemed to relax not to be planned. "Let me rephrase then," You shot him a dangerous glare. "Why did you want us to get captured?"
His head snapped towards you so quickly you thought his neck broke. You raised an eyebrow expectantly, waiting for him to elaborate.
"What gave you that impression?"
"Why won't you answer?"
"Why won't you?"
"I asked you first."
"And I asked you second."
"You are insufferable, an insufferable, awful man." You spat, "You may think I'm an idiot, but I can assure you that I am no fool. The only reason why I cannot pinpoint your motif is because I lack the information necessary. If even the slightest clue—" You bit your tongue mid-sentence. "Ouch. Bloody hell, this could not get any worse."
Dazai sighed from next to you. "You certainly are feisty, I'll give you that much." He began humming an annoying tune.
"You can't commit a double suicide alone~"
You growled and rolled your eyes. The only entrance was that in front of you. A large open space that ascended from a staircase into the outside world. The light emanating from there wasn't artificial so you would guess it was daytime by then. The stone slabs all had chains attached to them, you guessed this could've been a torture chamber of sorts. "Hey..."
Dazai stopped singing and looked at you. "Yes?"
"Are you after information about the bounty?"
Dazai's jaw went slack for what felt like the tenth time that week. And considering it was Dazai, that's ten times too many. "Pardon?"
"You intentionally let us get captured, then you told me Akutagawa punched you silly while I was out and that got me thinking: Wasn't Akutagawa the one who was after me and Atsushi in the first place? And he is here of all places. Which means something is going on within the Port Mafia that requires his presence or—" You raised a second finger to symbolise a second possibility, "He is very keen on capturing us. The latter raises the question of who could have possibly placed such a large bounty on our heads. It couldn't have been my father, what reason could he possibly have to capture Atsushi and not the rest of you."
