Waking up the next day was less traumatic. You'd met most of the crew members and most of them seemed docile, unlike the monsters you'd imagined from your books. You ate breakfast, courtesy of Kunikida, and began wandering about the ship once more. Details embedded in your mind in case an escape route was needed. The quarters worked like this: Captain had his own quarters on the main deck together with the galley and doctor Yosano's office, down below were the crew's quarters — which of course were divided into male and female — and lastly the cells where the prisoners were kept.
The ship was quite large for such a small crew.
To say you were surprised when the quarter master told you that you had already met all the members of the crew would be an understatement. They must have the devil's luck if they survived for this long in open waters with so few people aboard.
What you really couldn't understand though was why the stories made them out to be such dangerous criminals, they didn't seem that bad to you but you knew better than to judge a book by its cover.
"Lady (Y/n)!" Atsushi tan towards you waving his hand in the air. You ignored him and walked away, "Wait miss!"
"What?" You asked irritably.
"Uhm... C-Captain Dazai is asking for you."
You turned your heel and walked straight past him with your head held high.
You reached the main deck, where Dazai was waiting for you.
"There you are, Princess!"
"What is it, Dazai?"
He clicked his tongue as if he was scolding a child, "I believe there should be a 'captain' in there."
"What. Do. You. Want?"
"We'll be docking at the next island over in a day or two, for the occasion I believe it's be best for you to wear these."
From behind him, he offered a few items of clothing that seemed very familiar.
"Is that my..." You didn't exactly know how to finish the sentence so you let him do it for you.
"Yes your man-costume. I think it'd be best for you to wear this when we reach port, wouldn't want anyone to take advantage of our delicate little lady."
"Ha! There are many words to describe me, but delicate certainly is not one of them!"
His eyes flashed with a mischievous glint. "Very well then, prove it." He smirked, "You can pick any member of our crew, any member at all, and if you beat them then you'll be allowed to go out dressed as a woman. However, should you lose you'll be forced to dress like a man and follow my every move when on land."
"I can dress however I please."
"If you win, yes. If you lose, no. Should you refuse to cooperate we'll tie you to the mast and leave you there until we return. No food or water. How 'bout it, do we have a deal?"
He wasn't kidding and you knew it.
"Fine." You shook his hand reluctantly, squeezing a little to show you weren't bluffing either.
"Well then, make sure to choose your fighter by sundown."
You thought long and hard about what to do, it took you the whole day. You immediately ruled out those you were certain you did not want to go up against, doctor Yosano being the first of the list, followed by Kunikida and Kenji. You weren't about to stoop so low as to fight a kid and Kunikida looked like someone who could've been part of the military. That left you with Naomi, Jun'ichiro, Ranpo, Atsushi and Dazai himself. You felt like the siblings were a package deal so you excluded them as well. You felt like Ranpo would have something up his sleeve at all times so that leaves you with Atsushi and Dazai. The latter creeped you out more often than not and you wanted to give Atsushi a nice pounding for the past couple of days. Atsushi it is then.
