Chapter 22: The Tell-Tale Heart

Chapter 22:

Kristy woke up the next morning and someone knocked on her window. She opened when she saw it was Claudia.

Claudia: hi peaches, I'm home
Kristy: *helps her through the window* Claudia, what are you doing here?
Claudia: I'm moving in *grabs her bag*
Kristy: Does your dads' knows you're here?
Claudia: fuck them, they don't care about my feelings anymore
Kristy: tell me what happened

Claudia told them what happened yesterday and Kristy said.

Kristy: Claudia, you can't stay here
Claudia: why not, I thought we were friends
Kristy: I can't lie to Joe and Nick. I just got out of grounding recently for lying
Claudia: please it's only for a couple of days
Kristy: what if Joe talks to your dads maybe Joe can convince them
Claudia: you really think the one guy I get on his nerves the most would convince my parents
Kristy: good point, but Joe's a reasonable person
Joe: Kristy, are you up?
Kristy: *whisper* it's Joe, hide!
Claudia: I thought you said he was a reasonable person
Kristy: just hide pls

Claudia hid under her bed with her stuff and Kristy opened the door for Joe.

Kristy: hi Joey... How are you?
Joe: your surprisingly up early for once *looks around the room* Who were you talking to?
Kristy: I-I w-was o-on t-the p-phone
Joe: with who?
Kristy: *gulps* S-Stacey
Joe: hmm...
Kristy: *nervous* w-what?
Joe: You're not lying to me, are you?
Kristy: n-no s-sir, w-why w-would y-you t-think t-that
Joe: because you stutter when you lie. You just got off grounding for lying. Don't make it a habit little girl, or your butt will be very sorry, understand
Kristy: *gulps* yes sir
Joe: *sit down on bed* Now have you seen Claudia, her parents are looking for her. She went missing this morning
Kristy: n-no s-sir, I-I h-haven't s-seen h-her
Joe: hmm... you lying to me? *goes to her and makes her look at him*
Kristy: *nervous* n-no s-sir
Joe: if I found out you lied to me you're in big trouble, understand
Kristy: y-yes s-sir

Joe looked at her curiosity before letting go, and said.

Joe: alright get ready for school. Maybe she will show up to class today

Kristy nods and Joe kisses her forehead and leaves her room. Kristy sighs heavily after holding her breath too long worried she might blow her cover.

Kristy: that was close one
Claudia: tell me about it *comes out*

Kristy; so are you coming to school or not
Claudia: I can't, that's the whole point of running away is to not show up to school
Kristy: you can't miss class Claudia. You're already on probation, I can't keep covering for you forever
Claudia: I didn't ask you too, as my friend you always end up doing the covering for me
Kristy: I do not
Claudia: seriously Kristy, you never covered for me before when I never asked
Kristy: ugh... fine sometimes I do, but I can't help myself
Claudia: I know, because it's in your nature

Just then Riley comes into the room and Riley said.

Riley: What are you doing?
Kristy: Riley, get out of my room! How many times do I have to tell you to knock before entering
Riley: you have the door close, normally when you have the door close, your hiding something *to Claudia* and I know she's not suppose to be here
Claudia: what do you mean, I always come here
Riley: through her window? Yeah Mads and I can hear you outside our window, you're not very good at keeping quiet.
Kristy: thanks a lot Claudia. What do you want to keep this little secret from Nick and Joe
Riley: and risk getting grounded for helping you out , yeah I don't think so
Kristy: I'll tell Joe not to blame you and that I made you do it
Riley: he is not going to believe that
Kristy: well I did sort of ask you, and you probably would have left it alone
Riley: I guess you're right, well... In that case *looks at her* nah you're my sister it wouldn't be right
Kristy: thanks Riley *hugs her*
Riley: on the other hand, you're not my sister.
Claudia: alright, what do you want?
Riley: to clean Mads side of her room when we are in school today
Claudia: why?
Riley: I can't stand her side of the room, and Joe said if it's not clean by the end of the day she's in trouble
Kristy: it's Joe's motto, "a tidy room is a happy room"
Claudia: but it sounds like her problem, not a Riley's problem
Riley: she's my twin sister, if she gets into trouble, I get into trouble. So technically, you would be doing us both a favor it's a win, win for both of us
Claudia: not for me
Kristy: oh come on Claudia, you're probably going clean my closet anyways while you go through my clothes
Claudia: but I'm actually getting something in return
Kristy: please
Claudia: fine
???: girls come on you're going to be late for school!
