The next morning Alois made a beeline straight for Ciel. The eyepatch wearing boy was at his locker with Elizabeth, getting his books for his morning classes.
"Ciel." Alois said, outstreching his arm and leaning on the lockers. Now with Elizabeth on his left and Alois on his right, Ciel had absolutley no means of escape. He couldn't run away now.
"Where were you yesterday?" The blonde boy asked, watching Ciel panic for a spilt second, but quickly compose himself.
"I was busy." the bluenette stated, his voice bored and uninterested. Alois wasn't sure how to respond. He could tell Ciel was lying. He 'd known Ciel long enough to pick up on his little social habits and such. Ciel must've really not wanted to meet up with him.
"Why d-" before Alois could finish his question, Ciel physically shoved him out of the way and ran. The blonde was so stunned that he just let it happen. Elizabeth looked at him with wide eyes and a shocked expression. Suddenly, Alois took off. He wasn't about to let Ciel run away again. Not on his watch. The blonde skidded past seas of sleepy students, some glaring at him, others too tired to even bother.
He was so surprised from the shove, that he didn't get a chance to see which way the Phantomhive ran. Alois scoped out the whole first floor and came up empty handed. As he started on the second floor, he saw a glimpse of the bluenette heading toward the roof. The bell rang, but Alois dismissed it comepletely. That was not important at the moment. Ciel was.
The mass of students started to thin out as people went to class, which helped the blonde on his pursuit. He took the flight of stairs to the roof and shoved the door open. The cold morning air hit him hard and burned his aching lungs. Alois scanned the roof and spotted Ciel bent over, his hands on his knees. The Trancy caught his breath and dashed in Ciel's direction. By the time Ciel noticed his presence, it was too late. Alois grabbed the bluenette's arm and spun him around.
Ciel looked pale and was terribly out of breath. Alois silently cursed himself for making Ciel run, knowing the boy had asthma.
"Are you okay?!" Alois asked, frantically scanning the boy. "Your asthma!"
Ciel shook his head and yanked his arm out of the blonde's grasp.
"I'm fine." he said dryly, turning away from Alois once more.
Suddenly, Alois clenched his fists and took a deep breath before yelling.
"What the hell is wrong with you!?" He saw the bluenette stiffen and look down.
"I waited for hours and you never showed! Not to mention you can't look at me for more than three seconds before turning away or running! What did I do?!" Alois contiuned, momentarily feeling better having finally let all of that out. Now the only thing he had to do was wait for Ciel's responce. The Phantomhive boy slowly turned around, looking Alois right in the eyes.
"I could ask you the same question." Ciel said, catching the blonde off guard.
"You've obviously been avoiding me! And what about that time I went over to your house to give you your homework and you got all mad? What was with that?" Ciel asked, standing his ground.
Alois's head buzzed with thoughts as he tried desperately to think of what he should say. Once he said something, he knew there's be no going back. It would be final.
The cold wind wipped around the boys, ruffling their hair and causing them to shiver.
"Well, excuse me for being jealous!" Alois exclaimed, shocking both Ciel and himself at the statement. The blonde immeadiatly looked at the ground, studying the cracks int the concrete.
"Why would you be jealous?" Ciel asked, tiling his head curiously.
A light blush dusted the Trancy boy's pale cheeks as he shook his head.
"N-Nevermind about me! What were you doing yesterday that was so time consuming that you didn't show up?"
Now it was Ciel's turn to blush as he fidgeted uncomfortably. Alois's eyes widened at the blush and tears theatened to fall from his icy blue eyes. He was with Elizabeth, wasn't he? Why else would Ciel Phantomhive, the boy who shows no emtion, be blushing? That blush just confirmed it all.
"You were with Elizabeth, weren't you?! On a date or something, right? It was all a joke! You never meant to show up in the first place! I can tell you don't want to be around me! It hurts, Ciel."
At those words, tears streamed down the blonde's cheek, instantly freezing when the mixed with the morning air. This was it. Their friendship was over. Alois felt utterly stupid for even thinking that it could be rekindled. Why had he made that idiotic vow? That he'd do anything to win the Phantomhive's heart? Ha! How pathetic! Ciel had found someone. He had Elizabeth and now he was happy and didn't even want to look at the blonde anymore. He was done with him.
This time, Alois ran. He ran toward the roof door but was stopped as Ciel grabbed his wrist. Alois didn't turn around and Ciel didn't force him to. The just stayed like that, Alois crying and Ciel looking at the ground. Minutes past, and finally the Phantomhive boy spoke.
"I wasn't with Elizabeth. I was at home. I...I...I just...couldn't face you, okay? I couldn't do it, Alois." his voice sounded embarassed and unsure.
Alois slowly turned around and faced the eye-path wearing boy.
"Wha? Why couldn't you? W-What did I do?" Alois asked, wiping away some of his tears.
Ciel sighed heavily and looked directly at the ground. He was silent for so long that Alois was afraid he wasn't even going to talk. But he did.
"That day you stood up for me. You saw me...You saw me weak and vulnerable. It's a pride thing, really. I can stand up for myself, you know? I can." the bluenette explained, glacing up at the blonde every now and then.
Alois was speechless. That's why Ciel stood him up and avoided him? His stupid pride? Now that Alois thought about it, that did sound a lot like something Ciel would do. Alois just stared at him, not understanding how something so stupid could get between them. Well, there was something else, too. Elizabeth. Alois was scared to bring her up. They had just about settled this problem, and he didn't want to open up another one.
"Alois?" Ciel asked, looking up at the blonde.
"Yeah?"
"Say somthing..." Ciel said with a chuckle.
Ciel's chuckle became contagious, and Alois couldn't stop himself from chuckling as well. Before long, they both busted out laughing, holding their sides and forgetting about the fight and Elizabeth and that they were currently on the roof of the school when they should be in class. They just laughed and laughed until they cried. Little did they know, a certian girl with curly blonde hair was watching them rather closely from the door.
A/N: Oh, Lizzie.
