Tommy's POV

***

The bright morning light streams through the beige curtains into my plain room, illuminating the metal hinges on my bedroom door.

I prop myself up in bed with my elbows and lazily stretch my hand towards my phone to check the time.
It feels early, but when I check, I see it's ten in the morning.

I swing my legs over the bed and rub my eyes before letting out a yawn and standing. I make my way over to the closet where I get dressed in jeans and a red and white top.

I leave socks on my feet and decide not to bother with shoes.
I'm only inside anyways.

***

I knock on my sister's bedroom door before opening it.

As usual, Tabitha's curled up under the covers. Her face is plastered into her pillow, hiding her eyes from the sun and her hands hang off the side of the mattress as she snores gently.

I roll my eyes and take a pillow from her bed, thinking of the perfect way to wake her up.

"Morning!" I shout, bringing the pillow down onto her face forcefully.

Tabitha opens her eyes and glares at me with fierce eyes. She hates being woken up.

"It's ten," I say, raising an eyebrow. "Ms Wallice will have our heads if we don't go down and help soon"

Tabitha groans but nods, sitting up. I give her some privacy and tell her I'll be downstairs while she changes.

Tabitha's POV

***

Tommy leaves my bedroom and I sigh, rolling my eyes. Did he really have to wake me up so fucking brutally?

I slide out of bed and make my way over to my chest of drawers. The chest is so old the white paint has started to go yellow and chipped off. One of the legs is also broken and has to be propped up with a pile of children's books just to stay stable.

I grab some clothes and curse myself for not waking up earlier. I don't have time to shower now.

I get dressed and pass a brush through my long blonde hair. I stare back at my reflection in the bathroom mirror and sigh. My hair is hopelessly straight and refuses to change as I run my fingers through it.

I put my hairbrush down and replace it with a mascara wand. After brushing the thick black brush through my eyelashes, I do my eyeliner and then brush my eyebrows into place. When I look decent enough for human interaction, I toss the makeup back in the bathroom drawer and walk downstairs.

***

For breakfast, Ms Wallice has to attend to the younger children so I make my own food.

I find a bag of oats in the back of the kitchen cupboard and take it out. I haven't eaten porridge in a long time and I'm weirdly craving some.

I take out a pot and fill it with water before placing it on the stove. I turn on the flame and add two and a half cups of oats, knowing that Tommy will also probably want some.

***

I spoon the cooked porridge into bowls and sprinkle some sugar over the top before putting them on the kitchen table.
