"Serena."
Isang boses ang nagpahinto sa'kin. Lumingon ako sa gilid at nakita si Rica na nakahilig sa isang pader. I sighed and occupied the wall in front of her.
"Rica." I greeted back. "Why did the government send you here?"
Nagpalabas siya ng sigarilyo at sinindihan ito. "Dunno. I only follow orders. I don't ask questions."
"How many of you are here?"
Nagkibit-balikat siya. "Ten? Fifty? Hindi ko sila ininterview."
Bumuntong-hinga ako. "What's the government's goal? Bakit sila sumang-ayon dito?"
"I told you, I don't ask questions. But I have an idea." tumaas ang kilay ko sa sagot niya. "Tingnan mo muli ang invitation, Serena. The clue is there. For the government, the academy is their chance to kill two birds with one stone."
Kill two birds with one stone? Nanlaki ang mata ko. Hindi kaya?
Itinapon niya ang sigarilyo sa lupa at tinapakan ito. She pushed herself off the wall and started to walk away. "Mag-ingat ka sa event na 'yan, Serena. I may not know how many of us are here, but we all have the same order. To observe the ability-users and... kill you."
Ibinaba ko ang tingin. I know that.
Mahina akong tumawa. "Oh? Are you worrying for me?"
Rica smiled. "It was only for a short while, but I value you as my friend. They're watching."
Ikinaway niya ang kamay. Tumingala ako at tiningnan ang asul na langit.
Kill me. Of course, the government would find me since they have power over these walls too. Ngunit mukhang hindi sila pwedeng umakto lang. The academy's rules are chaining them. Kaya kailangan nilang gamitin ang games at ibet ang execution ko.
Nagsimula akong maglakad. Rica will be leaving the academy tomorrow and will possibly go in more missions. The government is such a hypocrite. Ayaw na ayaw nila sa mga ability-users, pero nangdadakip upang ipadala sa lab, in exchange for money, or use them to do their dirty work. In the end, it's always the ability-users who get the blame.
Pero... bakit naman agad na magpapakita ng intensiyon si Rica? The best way to kill me is using the event. In a mind game, those who get pressured will always lose. At alam ni Rica na sa mga larong iyon, I always win. I can cheat and use their emotions.
