Lunch ended, meaning Emma and I had to part ways once again. A few classes later, I found myself sitting in the back of a math class, Carson sitting on my right. Halfway through the lesson, I was completely lost. We took a five minute break, letting all the information I totally learned soak in. I leaned back in my seat and sighed, running my fingers through my amber hair. Carson glanced at me while talking to his friend, a small frown spreading on his face.
"Dude, why're you looking at the new girl like that?" his friend asked, attempting to be quiet
"I pissed her off earlier and I don't know if she's forgiven me yet." Carson replied, now fully looking at me.
Though I acted as if I hadn't seen him watching me, I tried not to make eye contact with him which failed miserably. My eyes flickered over to him, making eye contact for a split second.
"Maybe you should talk to her. Let her know you're sorry and that shit." His friend recommended.
"I don't know, man. Women are confusing." Carson commented
"You're right about that. But she seems different. Seriously, go talk to her." His friend said
Carson sighed, "Alright fine. But you better come and save me if she gets pissed.
"I got you back, man. Now go get her." The boy jokes, making finger guns and pointing them at Carson.
He turned to face me, leaving his friend with a wide grin on his face.
"You good, Courtney?" He asked
"Hm? Oh yeah, I'm fine." I replied, acting like I haven't been eavesdropping on his recent conversation
"You sure? Are you still mad at me for what happened during PE?" Carson questioned
"A little, yeah." I responded, placing my chin in my hand.
"Doesn't seem like it. You know, I am sorry about what I said."
"I told you I forgave you. I don't understand why you're still asking about it."
"It's because I feel like you haven't forgiven me yet."
"Well, I have. So why are you talking to me?"
"I heard you take a long sigh and I wanted to make sure you're okay. So, are you okay?"
"Yeah, I'm alright. Just a little flustered with all the math."
"Do you think you took the wrong class or something? Or are you just lost."
"I'm not lost. I'm just stupid when it comes to everything."
Oh god now I feel like I'm in Mean Girls. I'm sitting in math class. A boy I like is talking to me. Accept he came to me. And I don't know how to do math. I'm not just playing stupid. I've always been bad at math. My dad has tried to put me into an after school math tutoring program but it didn't work out so I had to stick with regular math. It was hard on me but I've pushed through it like everything else in life. Have to walk the track during PE? I'll do it. Have to help tutor someone in English? I'll do it. Have to give someone a tour around the school even though I'm about ready to kill myself? I'll do it.
"I doubt that." Carson says, crossing his arms
"Alright. Give me a subject to talk about and I'll prove to you how stupid I am." I replied
"Tell me something about plants. You seem like someone who would have plants." He commented
Shit. Of course he chose the one subject I actually know something about. "Well, um, lets see." I paused, trying to make something up from the top of my head. "When it comes to plants, things can get confusing."
