I made my face go blank, trying not to look guilty as Dad walked in with Nat and Cap.
"There's my fighter!" Tony exclaimed when he saw me. "Come here," I smiled as I walked over to Tony, his arms outstretched and gave him a hug. "From the sounds of it, you were awesome, kiddo. I wish I had seen it."
"You can,we recorded her last fight, the one where she beat the Black Widow." Cap told him, as Natasha glared at him.
"Nicely done Steve. Now I can see my daughter in action!" I laughed, and the others did to, the tension in the room thinning a little bit. Peter walked in almost jumped as he spotted Tony who turned around. "You still here, kid?" He looked at Peter, scrutinising him, then breaking into a smile.  "Just kidding. Glad you're here." Peter looked relieved. Then Bruce came through with dinner and we all sat back at the table, lapsing into our normal stream of conversation as we ate. Bruce had made pasta, and put it in the delicate bowls Tony adored, so, as he bluntly put it : "he'll be less likely to throw one of it all goes bad."
I noticed that Peter had chosen to sit next to me, and he reached for my hand under the table. I put mine in his and we sat like that, holding hands until eventually the chatter stopped and Tony looked around the table, before his eyes stopped on me.
"I'm sensing a weird vibe here guys, anything you want to tell me?"
"Right, um, dad?"
"Yes?"
"There is something I have to tell you."
"Uh oh, this sounds bad." He joked.
"You might be mad, really mad, but if you listen and think it over then-"
"Y/N? Whatever it is, you can trust me. You know you can tell me anything, right?"
"Right." I gathered my courage. "Dad, Peter and I are, uh..."
"Going to the same school? Cause I'm glad he'll be with you at school because-"
"Dating, dad. Me and Peter are dating." I held up our intertwined hands from under the table.
"You are?" He didn't shout. Or yell. He just looked a little stunned, that's all. "Like, dating, as in kissing dating or..."
I went red, and so did Peter.
"Yes dad. As in kissing dating."
"Cool."
"That's it? No big speech?" I was incredulous.
"Truth be told kid, I've known you liked each other since the first night, and you told him you were going to school with him."
"Oh."
"And yeah, I'm not completely thrilled with the arrangement, but Peter, you're a good kid, so why shouldn't you date my daughter?" He added with a glance at Peter, who gulped.
"Of course M..Mr Stark. Thank you." Peter replied, relaxing a little.
And with that, the tension was broken and we finished dinner without any awkwardness.
After dinner, when Peter had said goodbye, and the others were in the kitchen, Dad called me over to talk.
"Now, no lying Y/N."
"Okay?"
"When did you and Peter have your first kiss?"
"Oh, um, last night on my balcony?"
He put his head in his hands and sighed. "Let me guess. Lover boy came back to see you and you both kissed on your balcony, then he took you to swing past New York?"
"Yes?" Was it that basic? Had he done that with other girls?
"Relax Y/N," he laughed. "Cap told me everything while you were saying goodbye. He hasn't ever had a girlfriend before," he added, seeing my worried face.
"He also said that Peter told him that you were terrified the entire time?"
I mentally cursed Peter for telling Steve that part, then answered. "It was pretty frightening at first, but then I opened my eyes and realised he wasn't going to drop me, so I actually began to enjoy it."
"Glad to hear my daughter isn't a scaredy-cat, because if you're ever gonna be an Avenger, which I don't doubt you will be, then you have to face scarier things than that."
"Really dad? I could be an Avenger?!"
"Let's give it a little time, shall we? Once you compete a term of school, we'll see."
"Thank you dad! And thanks for being so cool about the Peter thing too. I love you."
"Love you too kid."
