Night Walker

Chapter 5

We made it back to the palace after a short and silent walk. I left the bottles of vodka in the cafe. As soon as we walked in, Maddie ran up and hugged Steve, who at first was confused and he just held her. He wasn't the only confused one, as the only people who paid attention, Kenna and Lily looked confused.

I would like to say, I did try being the bigger person. Ask anyone, I tried controlling it. I really do wish I could tell you what happened next. But I can't. I don't remember.

All I remember happening was me punching Maddie and then I yelled, "What the hell did you do to him?"

After that nothing. The next thing I remember I was pinned onto a wall. It took three guardians to keep me off Maddie. I stopped struggling and then they all let go, expected one. My dad.

He held me, cradling me, singing a Russian lullaby while I cried. "What's one beautiful thing you see? Anything that makes life worth living."

I looked around, trying to think of something. My heart race slowed down. "The sun." I mumbled, "The sun is the reason I wake up."

"My kitty." He held me tighter.

My mom sat down in front of him. She laid her head onto his chest and brushed her hand through my hair.

"What happened?" I asked knowing the answer.

"You attacked Maddie, saying she compelled Steve."

I looked around, both Steve and Maddie were gone. Steve called me a child and now he's with Maddie doing god knows what.

I wasn't acting like the Katerina everyone in here knows and loves. I can act like this when we're back at the academy, back in the wards. Right now I need to save everyone I love. I need to be the badass I was born to be.

"Mom. Dad. I have a plan."

They rounded everyone up. I finally can feel like my mother and father whenever they order all of these guardians around. No one said anything, they all sat down and let me talk. And when I finished no one told me no. They all split into groups, just like how I told them.

Steve and Maddie walk in when we are all ready to get into our places.

"What's going on?" Steve asked.

"Katerina thought of a plan." Lily answered before I did.

"What do you want me to do?"

She looked over at me and gave me a look, and then looked back at Steve, "Hmm, I don't know if we'll have time to fill you in. The sun is about to be down. Maybe next time don't leave when there's a group of strigoi in the other room."

"She was hurt."

"We're in a room with spirit users, they could have healed her." I said. "You can take me to Veronica's room, and then join Christian, Malakai, and Eddie."

The walk to Veronica's room was silent. I was a couple of steps behind him, trying to think of something to say. We got into the elevator and I just looked at him.

"She didn't compel me. Kat you aren't well. I just didn't want to be taking advantage of you." he finally said.

"What were you doing with her?" I've been dying to know.

"She told me what Nate has been telling her. I cleared it all up. I told her I was in love with you, but I'm giving you space." He grabbed my hand, "Lily told me everything, I just want to be here for you."

I gave him a weak smile.

The elevator stopped and the doors slowly opened. Steve stepped out first leading me to the room. I walked in and the room was a mess.
