From the moment I woke up I knew something was wrong. The only thing I wanted was blood. All I could think about is how thirsty I was and how badly I wanted to rip someone's head off. I was so distracted to the point, I didn't even realize where I was.
I was in a cell. And I had a neighbor. I couldn't see who it is, as they were lying the other way.
I needed to get out of here. I hit my head on the iron. I tried pulling it apart breaking it.
I felt strong. I felt power. But I was hungry. I need blood.
I could hear people. They weren't far. I could hear someone. Something was trying to talk to me.
Kat. I know you're awake.
Asher. He's still there, we're bonded. How is that possible? What the hell happened?
Slowly, I was getting pulled into his head.
What the hell is going on? I thought.
"I can hear you." he exclaimed. "She's not strigoi." He looked at the group of people in front of him; my parents, Steve, Sonya, and Lissa. "She's here."
Everyone looked so confused. They just stared at Asher.
"Maybe you should get some sleep." Steve patted his shoulder, "All of us should, we've had a long couple of days."
Couple of days? What the hell happened?
"We can't." Sonya said. "We have more anti strigoi ink. And our answer to replicate that is in the next room."
"Sonya, she's in a cell." Steve threw the papers in front of him, "She's been asleep, she's not one of them and you know that."
"We don't know what she is. This could help all of. But we can't put our people in danger." Sonya justified. "And all of our spirit users are out, from staking Roman, extracting the spirit lingering, and healing our dhampirs. Turning her back now isn't a good idea."
"Your people. My person is in a cell." Steve looked frustrated. "Let me go in there, let me be with her."
"She wants blood." Asher said, "If you go in there, she's going to rip your head off."
"The bond thing is interesting." my mom said, "She died it should have been broken."
"Magic brought her back." Sonya said, "I have a theory. The bond won't back when we turn her back, but it won't stay like this."
"We need to turn her back, I can't leave her in there like that. I made her a promise. She can't be like this."
"Steve we will turn her back." Sonya tried reassuring her.
Steve scoffed, "Easy for you to say. Mikhail is right outside, you want to hug and hold the person you love you can do that. I can't, I just got her back, and now she's gone." Steve started tearing up. I should feel bad and want to hold him back I don't feel anything.
"Steve," my dad finally said, "it kills us that our daughter is in there, being treated like a science experiment. But she's a liability."
"How are we supposed to know she's not dangerous if we treat her like a cage animal."
Lissa sighs, "We have other people to think about. Royals are flooding in. Letting Katerina out now would be incredibly dangerous."
"She's not well," Sonya added, "If she blacks out, things can get dangerous, who knows if she can even get out of it. Or maybe she's already in it."
My mom reaches for Steve's hand, "Trust me, I hate this too, but Kat would want us to think about others. We have a plan, we just need to follow it."
