I press the books harder against my chest as the streets gets more and more crowded the closer I get to Manhattan. I've only lived here for a few weeks but I'm already tired of the never ending stress in this city. I can't even go out and get my weekly amount of book-reading without some pervert yelling nasty words at me from across the street. New York people really are crazy!

I'm just about to cross the street when a bus turns sharply and drives past, just an inch from my face. I hear someone scream and I think that maybe I just got driven over and died, but then I realize that the scream was from a group of boys who were hanging on to the back of the bus. The sharp turn must have loosened their grip because one of the boys falls down to the ground. He trips back on his feet and stumbles right into me; so hard that I fall to the ground with a thump. I can't help but let out a scream as the hard concrete sends pain through my whole body. Great!

"It's okay, it's okay." I assure to the boy as I get up on my feet but when I meet his gaze I realize he never even asked for my forgiveness or even said sorry. Alright, so who's this rude guy? He has long, dirty blonde hair which is parted to the sides like half closed curtains over his forehead. His facial features are young but he is tall like an iceberg! Okay, maybe not that tall but at least a head taller than me.

The boy rubs his palms on his jeans and gives me a confused glare. As he finally opens his mouth I suspect him to maybe say sorry this time, but he throws out something else:

"What's da' matter with yah'?" he spits.

I never thought someone could be as rude as this guy, but apparently I was wrong! I don't even get a second to think about what to say before his friends from the bus come running.

"Hey Jim! Jimmie! You almost ate fucking shit there, huh?!" a brown haired, buff guy yells. He and two other boys arrive next to this "Jim-guy". When they notice me smirks appear on their faces.

"Olala... Who's this little beauty?" the buff guy asks and wiggles his brows at me.

I decide to ignore them and pick up my books which are spread out on the ground. Just as I am about to grab one of them a black converse shoe pops up as it kicks the book out on the road.

"What are you doing?!" I squeak and quickly stand up to meet the challenging looks on the boys' faces.

"Oh, no! I'm so, so sorry!" Jim yells and puts his hands dramatically to the sides. Then he starts kicking for my other books until they're all laying out on the road, completely ramshackled. My eyes are round with shock as I look back and forth from the books to the boys.

"What did you do that for?" I whisper with tears burning behind my eyes. I know I should get away from here as quickly as possible before I end up like the books, but my feet are stuck to the ground.

I flinch over dramatically and my lips quiver as Jim erases the gap between our bodies. He hovers down over me with a rude sneer on his lips.

"Why are you just standing here? You think someone is gonna' come and help you? Nah, baby. Just look around."

I look through the corner of my eye and see that he is right. People walk past without giving us a single glance.

"You dig?" Jim asks in such a smooth voice that it makes me shiver. Then he gives me a poke in the chest, not hard at all, but I still stumble backward as if he pushed me.

"Get going now cutie." he mocks.

"Don't call me cute." I dare to say.

"But you are cute." he smirks before turning around and disappearing down the road with his friends.

Did any of that just happen? I ask myself with sobs pushing their way up my throat.

I have great plans for this story so vote if you want me to post more parts! :D
