A: James was Deaf. Alex and his mother learned ASL so they could communicate with him, but his dad never bothered to.
Q: Who was it that raped Alex when he was thirteen?
A: That would be a seventeen-year-old Robert Troup (historically Alex's roommate at King's and possible first love)
Q: How did John's mom die?
A: She died in childbirth, giving birth to Mary.
