EDITED

"I don't think I can take over the company."

Was the first thing Kristen Gregory uttered upon entering her mother's office, an emotionless expression etched onto her face as the door closed behind her.

Her mother motioned for her to sit but Kristen stayed in her spot, crossing her arms in front of her chest as a Nikon D850 hung loosely on her shoulder by a leather strap. Kristen was in the middle of choosing photos to put in her portfolio when she was summoned. She knew what was coming... It's that time of the month, again.

And no, it's not what you think.

Basically, her whole entire life has been planned out until the very detail, to be exact.

The infamous mother wanted her only daughter to become the next CEO of her fashion empire but clearly Kristen had other plans. She wanted a different path. Her, on the other hand, didn't want that.

"What are you talking about? You're my only daughter, Kristen. You're the only one to take over!" my mother snapped, raising her voice as she pounded her closed fist on the table quite loudly, clearly frustrated.

The young girl pinched the bridge of my nose, calming myself before she closed my eyes. Why is she being so difficult?

"Mom, I'm only twenty-one. I just finished college a year ago. I want to just lay low from all the stress and publicity that I'm getting because of you. And not that you would know but I'm really liking photography so I--"

"Oh that's nonsense, Kristen. Photography is a hobby not a job. Stop making excuses just because you don't feel like it. You. Are. A. Morgan. Your father always wanted you to take over this company. We made the company for you, for us... to help us... and now you're just throwing it all away? And for what? For that stupid little camera? Are you kidding yourself?!" she shouted, flailing her arms angrily.

She was so furious about me not taking that stupid job... can't she see I'm not fit to rule a company?!

She stood up, hands on each side of her hip as her face became slightly red with anger and her voice just says it all. Kristen came closer towards her and but she stopped whenn her mother held up her index finger.

"You don't know what your father and I did to give you this life. He died wanting his only daughter to love what he left. Please don't ruin this." my mother sighed, rubbing her temple. "Honey, I love you, but please... just think about it, okay?" she pleaded, her voice barely audible but I heard.

I sighed once again before nodding.

"I'll think about it."
