Kristen's POV
The dinner was quiet interesting as it was not all business talk which was kinda weird because I wasn't sure what to feel or what to expect.
Carlie and Clayton told a few Monte Carlo stories, my mother told Barbados ones.
Nathan and I just listened to them, silently eating and giving short replies when we were directly spoken to or needed. At one point, they asked me what I wanted to do since I finished college and all, and I answered with a simple, "I'm kind of just living in the moment right now."
My mother rolled her eyes at that as I noticed Nathan smiling to himself, looking down at his plate from what I said.
"Okay, it's time for the real thing we're all here for." Clayton suddenly blurted out, Nathan and I exchanging confused looks, slightly startled.
"What are you talking about? Isn't this dinner the real thing already?" Nathan asked, furrowing his eyebrows.
Clayton gestured for Carlie to speak, causing her to clear her throat before saying, "We wanted to let you both know that our companies are going through with the merge. We've been talking about this for years, even before Robert died and I think now is a good time to shed you on some light on the matter."
"What matter? What does this have to do with us?" I questioned, curious and nervous to what might come next.
"Honey, before we tell you exactly what we want to tell you, I just want you and Nathan to be open-minded about this. Don't get all mad or irrational. We need this to be a calm evening as possible." my mother warned and immediately I became more nervous.
Why would we get mad? What's happening?
"O-Okay?" Nathan said, puzzled.
"What's this really about? Can you please just spit it out." My mother held my hand, surprisingly calming me down from my nervous state.
"We need the both of you to be together." Carlie declared.
"Aren't we already together right now?" Nathan's sarcasm dripping from his mouth.
Carlie rolled her eyes. "That's not what I meant. What I meant was we need you and Kristen to date. Be a couple. Be in a relationship."
"What?!" Nathan and I exclaimed in unison.
Date? In a relationship? Couple? What the f*ck?
"What are you guys talking about? You want us to date? Why?" I asked, incredulously.
My mother sighed, squeezing my hand. "Sweetie, your father and I planned this a long time ago before you were even eighteen. The Gregory's and Morgan's are the most prestigeous families here in LA and everybody loves our garments. When the two companies combine, we will beat every other company in the entire world. I know you two dated at some point and when that happened, people loved the products more because you two were exploding. It was like you were promoting the companies without even doing anything." my mother tried to explain but I was too caught up for that one thing she said.
"H-How did you know about us dating?" I stuttered, not knowing my mother knew that I had a relationship with Nathan in the past.
I thought my mother only knew we were linked. I didn't know she knew we were actually together. I never even told her because I thought she would be mad at me or something.
