During homecoming week, Cathy went to class, studied, participated in as many homecoming activities as she could, mostly to support Brent and she went out with Paul, every...single night....
She missed Brent. He was always around her so she never really thought what it would be like if he started acting like a normal friend. She had grown use to him obsessing over her. To be fair, he had warned her that he would be busy, but she had a feeling he was avoiding her because of Paul who was now with her all the time. It wasn't enough that they had classes together and went out every night, Paul also began to hang out on campus with her all day. He was by her side 24/7 it seemed. They studied together, had lunch together, walked around campus together. He even introduced her to new friends and talked her into joining a few academic and leadership groups.
Cathy kept her promise in attending Brent's first game. Paul wasn't a big sports fan so he didn't go with her. She stood in the bleaches with Kiara and the rest of their friends and cheered him on. Brent waved and grinned when he saw her. They won their first game. She stood back and watched as his team tackled him in victory! And then the cheerleaders circled around him and after that a few girls ran on the field to kiss him. They had to be escorted off.
Cathy shook her head, she had a feeling Brent would be partying all weekend after that. Wait for me, he sent her the text as she was leaving with the rest. She hadn't thought he'd want to talk to her especially after his game. He came out running towards her. Cathy laughed as he picked her up in a bear hug and twirled her around.
"You actually came!" he said excitedly.
"Of course, I did, didn't I promise?" she asked.
"I didn't think you would come since you started dating Paul. You two are together all the time..."
"I wouldn't miss your first game for the world, Brent even if I got sick, I'd still come. You've always been there for me. I wouldn't let you down like that."
Brent grinned down at her and pulled her in his arms holding her close. "I've missed you, Cathy. I miss you so much. There's something I have to talk to you about, right here, right now. I can't wait any longer."
"Ok," Cathy stared at him curiously.
"Cathy, I..
"Cathy!" Paul said surprising them both.
Cathy turned to see Paul running up to them. "Paul! What are you doing here? I thought you didn't want to come."
"I didn't, but I thought I'd at least pick you up," he stared at Brent. "Can you let go of my girlfriend?"
Brent frowned. "Your girlfriend?"
"Didn't Cathy tell you? We're an official couple now."
Brent's arms dropped from Cathy's side. He stared down at her in disbelief. Paul pulled Cathy away from Brent and kissed her right in front of him.
"Paul," Cathy said pulling away from him and looking very uncomfortable. "I was going to tell him myself..."
"I know, but I thought it was best I do it...man to man..." Paul stared at Brent, challenging him.
"Brent!" His football buddies called him. "Let's go, man!"
Brent stared at Cathy. "Are you happy with him?" he asked her.
"We're in love," Paul said putting an arm around Cathy's waist and possessively pulling her against his side. "Isn't that right, sweetheart?"
"I didn't ask you," Brent gave him a look that warned Paul to shut the fuck up.
