"Brent..." Cathy whispered as she stared at the people bowing in front of her, some of them were even kneeling. "What's going on? Why are they doing this?!"

"Because I told them to," Brent said.

"Who are you to tell people to do this?!" She turned to the crowd. "Get up!" she shouted at them as if they were crazy.

Everyone stood up, they smiled at Cathy and walked away.

"I can't believe that just happened. Who are you to have that much control over people? Are you in the mafia? A gang? Are you part of a secret organization on campus?"

"The last one," Brent said.

Cathy gasped loudly and put her hands over mouth.

Brent shook his head, smiling. "I'm kidding. Stop trying to figure it out. People tend to do what I ask, I earned their respect my freshman year, that's all."

"By doing what?" Cathy asked.

"By defeating a couple of hard ass seniors who had it out for me and my friends. Being popular and rich around here tends to make you some type of leader. It's strange, but I don't care, as long as no one tries to hurt you or my friends."

"That is strange," Cathy said, wondering what type of university was she attending. It seemed so normal on the outside...

"Forget it, ok. It's not important, what's important is you. You know we're together now, right? You know I'm never letting you go, even if you start getting insecure or scared or think you can't handle this, we will work through it. I'm committed to making this work. I was so afraid I couldn't be the man you needed in your life, but now I know I can be. I made a mistake and was given a second chance with you; I'm not making anymore mistakes!"

She smiled up at him. "I understand, Brent."

"And we'll take our relationship slow ok, we can take it one day at a time. I'm not going to rush anything with you, baby. I know you're still trying to get over that bastard, but I needed to make you mine, right here, right now, so no one will ever hurt you again."

Cathy nodded suddenly feeling vulnerable.

Brent pulled her into his arms and held her close. He pulled back her hair and kissed her bruised cheek. "Fucking bastard left his mark on you. I want to kill him every time I see it..."

"It's ok, Brent," Cathy said trying to soothe him.

"It's not ok, I'm not ok, you're not ok, this is so fucked up!"

"I'm ok as long as I'm with you," Cathy said shyly.

Brent stared into her eyes. "You're staying with me starting now and for the rest of the weekend."

She didn't even bother to disagree, she just nodded. She knew she would be safe with Brent as long as he was by her side.

"You're done with classes right?" Brent asked.

Cathy nodded.

"Come on, I'll take you to my dorm."

"You're not going to kick me out again?" Cathy teased.

"I regretted doing that even though I knew it was for the best and no, my apartment is yours to come and go as you please, I'll even give you a key."

"I wouldn't dare intrude on you and Scott that way."

"Cathy, you still don't understand, but you will. My place is your second home. There is no such thing as intruding, you can come and go as you please, stay there whenever I'm not around, eat my food cause Scott never buys any, watch TV, take over my bathroom and bedroom," he grinned at the last two sentences.
