Keefe started, "Umm, well, I was trying to calm Foster down, you know, because she was so upset, and, umm, Fitz came in and he-"
Sophie almost slapped herself. Keefe had told her once that Empaths were terrible liars. She just didn't think they were this bad.
"Are you sure that's what happened?"Biana asked. "I heard Fitz yelling about... something. I'm not sure exactly what he said, but he sounded angry. He couldn't of just gotten mad because you were trying to calm Sophie down," she reasoned.
"Oh yeah, I forgot. I was calming her down when she got upset again," Keefe said, gaining confidence. "and started calling Fitz out and angrily talking about him. You know, regular breakup stuff." Sophie wondered if Keefe even knew what regular breakup stuff was.
Biana nodded, urging Keefe to continue. "Then Fitz came in. He heard parts of the outburst and started yelling at her about coming in a separate room just to rant about him, and her being a liar, and things like that. Then you came in and kicked him out."
Sophie sighed a breath of relief, but Biana narrowed her eyes. "I thought I heard him say something about you and Sophie k-" Sophie cut her off by shooting her a glance. Biana knew. Even though they didn't actually kiss in there, Biana knew something was going on between them. But that didn't mean that she could go and tell everyone. That would be a disaster. And it's not like anything happened, anyway. Nothing happened at all.
"Um, nevermind," Biana said. "I think I just misheard him."
Tam, Linh, and Dex somehow, thankfully, seemed to believe Keefe's lie, though. Thank goodness. They didn't know.
"Hey, Sophie, can I talk to you for a minute? Alone?" Biana asked.
Oh, no! Here it comes. She knows. She knows EVERYTHING! Sophie panic thought in her mind.
Biana got up and walked toward the door. Sophie reluctantly stood up to join her outside the door.
When Biana closed the door, to Sophie's surprise, she squealed and gave Sophie a hug.
"What is all this for?" Sophie asked, trying to play dumb.
"Oh, I think you know what it's for," Biana said, winking.
"How much did you see?" Sophie asked, groaning internally. She hoped Biana didn't tell anyone. Especially not Grady.
"Well, I didn't see much, but I did hear some things. Mostly Fitz yelling. I heard something about you and Keefe kissing. And I saw how close you guys were sitting on the couch. And how embarrassed you guys were. I could see it on your faces," Biana explained.
"We didn't actually kiss." Sophie sighed. "Wait, you could see what on our faces?" she questioned Biana.
"Oh, you know, the look that you have when you're falling desperately in love," Biana sighed dreamily.
"What look?" Sophie asked.
"Those little grins, googly eyes, that sort of thing. Really, Sophie, isn't it obvious? You're falling for him. You're falling for Keefe!" Biana exclaimed.
"I am?" She asked, then decided that lying was useless around Biana. "Well... I maybe I am. I really like him."
"Congrats, you're officially the last one to know. Keefe has had a crush on you for years, Sophie! Took you long enough to realize it. Even if you couldn't tell it yourself, everyone knew that you liked Keefe. Aww, you guys... I'm so proud!" Biana said, then hugged Sophie so hard the practically cut off her air supply. Sophie was utterly confused. Keefe has liked her for years? How had she not noticed?
At least they knew now. They loved each other. And they had almost kissed. At least that's what she thought had happened. It didn't mean anything was official or anything.
Not at all.
