Starting life in a New School: a Re:Zero fanfic

Subaru stepped out of the school proudly. He felt he had actually learned something today which, mind you, is what schools are for.

He began to walk down the road, he noticed Petelgeuse was still eyeing him up but he didn't care right now. He had an arrangement.

Subaru walked and glided down the road until he got to a place titled 'White Whale Cafè'. Interesting name. This is where he had arranged to meet with Frederica for their 'date'.
"Strange name, strange place." Subaru said to himself. Not like it really mattered, don't judge a book by its cover.

He walked in and immediately noticed a table with similar weirdos to Petelgeuse on it. Similar robes, and some shot the 'Pride?' Look.
How unnerving. But, he was saved by someone calling him over. "Subaruu!"

Of course, there was Frederica. Her hair ornament was out and she was wearing some more casual, yet tight clothing. It was completely transparent why she'd worn them, it was to attract his attention. Despite this, Subaru managed to hold eye contact and take his seat peacefully.

"So, do you often come here?" Subaru asked in his obliviousness.
"Well, not often. I just know it from my mother.." was the response he got. Subaru looked up.
"What happened to your mother?"

Frederica's words slurred "W-well, she left for a coffee, but never came back." Her eyes went slightly pink as she bowed her head. But fortunately for her, the most emotive person was right opposite her.

She felt a warm embrace wrap around her, like a scarf. "I'm sorry." He said. "I shouldn't have asked."

"Am I interrupting something?" Said the waiter who'd come to take their order.

Frederica broke into a smile, a tear still in her eye. "No, not at all!" She said.
