Starting life in a New School: a Re:Zero fanfic

Fifteen

The Unseen hand shot from Subaru's chest. It was a pathetically short-ranged arm, and only one would sprout. He gawked at how pathetic his newly-discovered power was, but it's all he had.

A giant slide of ivory and cement crumbled down as puck destroyed it in a grumpy rage.

"Subaru... you've done your part. You leave." Puck would tell him over and over, but Subaru's pride wouldn't let him leave by any means. He approached Puck with malicious intent.

"Oh? You're approaching me?" Puck cockily questioned. "Instead on running away, you're coming closer?"

Subaru focused all his strength on his hands. He wasn't going to do something smart, but it's all he could do.

He swung and Punched the giant apparition of Puck, and missed. Puck cast a tricky glare down at him, before delivering a flurry of freezing blows.

"Useless! You liar! You said you'd stand up for Emilia then you got cold feet! Useless! Useless! Useless! Useless!"

Subaru had been immobilised. If it wasn't for his one unseen hand grasping the ivory wall he was sent into, he'd be dead.
His eyes felt heavy. He couldn't talk to Puck, and felt like dying on the spot. A large gash of blood sank from his forehead, and he released a ghastly moan.

He almost closed his eyes when Puck began to approach him. Fortunately, he opened them when an elderly man in a suit struck Puck with his sword.

"Help him, Old Man Will!"

It was Felix! He'd actually returned for Subaru! Subaru felt nothing but gratitude. His eyes were fading out, but regardless.

He woke in a classroom with Felix healing him, and Crusch prominently standing near the entrance to the room.

"Felix... you saved me..." Subaru uttered. "But why..?"

"When I first met you, I thought you were weak. Nyou couldn't even find nyour classroom and resolved to sitting down on a sad little corridor bench. But nyou are unique. Off determination alone, nyou managed to escort everyone out and stall Puck. With that, nyou've gained my respect." Felix said without a shred of sarcasm.

Subaru smiled. "Thank you... who is that man fighting him..?"

"That's Wilhelm Van Astraea." Crusch told him. "He's one of the greatest knights in Lugunica."

Lugunica... what a bizzare place. Magic, elves, demons, animal people, spirits... Part of Subaru wishes he stayed where he was. But the other part was happy. Happy he'd come here.
Subaru displayed an honest smile. He was so thankful, in this current moment in time. Time... such a subject. Time can mean anything. Time flies, flows, and stops. Some people's time stop when they're young, some when they're old. And some when their home is destroyed.

Home... destroyed...

That was it!

Subaru got up. "Where is Mili?!" He asked. "We need to find her!"

Felix didn't respond since he didn't know. Neither did Crusch. Great. He had to go on a girl search.

Hours had passed. Wilhelm was almost sweating blood. The school was in ruins. Felix and Crush were already out. Subaru had been searching for Emilia for hours. Only now had he finally found her.

His left foot had been crushed by falling rubble.  A bloody stream dripped from his left arm. His right arm was broken. But he was determined.
Puck caught sight in him, writhing towards Emilia like a slug writhing on its way to a farmer's crops.

"You won't lay a finger on my daughter!" He said, as a paw swiped through the air. Subaru was to hurry.

He has no choice. He launched his Unseen hand, pulled the Green crystal off Emilia's neck, and smashed it against the ground. That's when it happened. Emilia was waking up, and Puck seemed to be disintegrating.

"Heh. All that to save the school. I guess I can't help but congratulate you, Subaru." Puck said, in his original form, but fading away like a sandcastle.

"Puck... I'm sorry.."

He blacked out.

Subaru rose in a hospital bed. A pot was on his arm, and he had a wooden foot. Several bandages were wrapped around him, and Emilia was sleeping on a chair next to him, though she gradually woke as Subaru gathered his surroundings.

"Subaru! You're Okay!" She said as she hugged him.

She'd told him all about was happened now. He'd been comatose for two weeks, and Roswaal, Rem, Ram, Frederica, Felix, Crusch, and the others were helping to rebuild the school. Subaru was in a lot of pain, but he felt an odd warmth knowing it was all okay.

"Hey, Mili?" He said.

"Once I'm out, do you want to order a pizza and watch Netflix, like the first time I was sick?"

Emilia said no words, but rather slipped her tongue inside his mouth, luring him into a deep, passionate kiss.
"I would love to." She said
