My father has always been overly protective of me, very secretive when it comes to his job, and super annoying when it has anything to do with my safety.
Other girls my age, I'm 17, are allowed to go to the movies and to the bowling alley. Go on dates and eat ice cream while walking alongside the boardwalk near the ocean. Me? I'm barely allowed to walk to and from school without my father freaking out.
We never see eye to eye and he refuses to talk to me about anything. I feel alone. I'm not some young girl anymore who needs her daddy's protection. I'm almost an adult and should be allowed to take care of myself. Obviously within reason.

I walk into our huge living room and see my fathers back to me, he's talking to someone on the phone, but his voice is quiet. He clicks the end button on his call and turns to me.
"Baby girl!" He says, a smile growing on his face. " I know we haven't been getting along much because you're older and want more freedom. So I've made a decision. Since your birthday was last week and you're now 17, I have a surprise for you!" He exclaimed.
I waited for him to continue, my right eyebrow raising ever so slightly.
"You now can go where ever you please, whenever you want." For a moment I thought he was being sarcastic, but no sign on his face showed me he was joking.
"Omg for real?! Thank you daddy!! I'll make sure I text you whenever I'm going somewhere and I'll always make sure I have my phone on me. I'll even be back by ten on the week days you won't regret it-"
"Ah ah ah, now wait. There will be one rule." He interrupted my speech.
" I've asked one of my most trusted friends to be your body guard. And Grace before you-"
"SERIOUSLY?! YOU CANT BE SERIOUS! TELL ME YOU'RE JOKING?!" I screamed at him. If he thinks for one minute some old crap shoot was going to chaperone me when I'm trying to hang out with my friends, he has another thing coming.
"Grace, honey, listen to me. My job is dangerous, that means I put mine and your life in danger by trying to keep business afloat. I won't risk your safety for you to be young and stupid and get yourself killed. You'll meet this young man, sooner than later, and you'll respect him and listen to him. He knows my rules, and he's young enough to fit in with you and your friends. You are not allowed to tease, taunt, or try to discourage him from his job. He is there to protect you."
I feel tears well up in my eyes as I run to my room, slamming the door and throwing myself down on my bed.
This wasn't fair. I deserve to have my freedom like every other girl. Not have some strange dude following me around.
A few hours later I hear a knock at my door. I refuse to talk to him any longer. I hear a click and then my door opens. I keep my face in my pillow.
"Grace, honey, will you meet your new body guard, Terrell". I glance over to the door and see a very tall, young looking man, with a black mask on that matches his black curly hair. I notice right away that his eyes are two different colors; one brown, one blue. From what I can tell he's cute but the mask blocks the bottom half of his face.
"I'll leave you two alone to get more acquainted. " I watched as my father walks behind Terrell and shuts the door behind him.
"Don't think for one minute that you're actually going to be following me. You can just tell my father that you're doing your job so you'll get paid and we won't have to bother one another." I said, wiping the leftover tears from my cheeks. I stood up and walk over to him, he remained quiet and still.
He was tall, very tall, like six foot three at least. His had a very muscular build, which was hot, and he was wearing all black.
"So what? Are you not allowed to speak?" I shot back. He shook his head no.
"What's the point of you accompanying me if you won't talk and you're up my ass 'protecting me'" I air quoted. He rolled his eyes at me, looking at me with seriousness in his eyes.
"When you're ready to leave to go anywhere, you will tell me and I will be coming with you." His voice was deep and harsh. No room for anything but seriousness. He then turned and left my room.
Is this guy serious? He really thinks I'm going to listen to him? I bet I can embarrass him so badly that he'll quit and tell my father he can't do the job.
Game on.
