Grace's POV

I hear beeping around me. I try to open my eyes but they are not opening. I can feel the cold air around my face and I know I'm in a bed with a blanket covering me. I can feel something heavy on my lap and someone's hand in mine. I can feel the warmth radiating from their skin.

I finally am able to open my eyes but I squint due to the bright sun shining into the room.

I look around seeing I am in a hospital room and Terrell's head is on my lap asleep. His hand holding mine.

I begin to feel drowsy so I close my eyes again and my head falls back onto my pillow.

General POV

Grace slips back into unconsciousness, when her head drops back onto her pillow Terrell jerks awake looking over at Grace. He lifts his head up from her lap and is watching her. He squeezes her hand.

Dr. Carrington knocks on the door and walks in holding her clipboard.

"How is she? Has she woken up yet?" She asks as she walks over to the other side of Grace checking the machine for her vitals.

"I thought she did but when I woke up she was still asleep. I swore I felt her move." He says as he brushes the hair out of her eyes.

"She lost a lot of blood, Terrell. It's even a miracle that we were able to get her to the hospital in time to infuse blood into her body before her organs shut down. She's in bad shape, Terrell."

" I can't help but feel like this is all my fault, you know? If I had been home and helping her instead of trying to take care of everything, then she wouldn't be in this situation." Terrell cried out.

"You can't know that. Sometimes you can do everything for someone, but you can't change how they feel. You couldn't have known she was this bad or that she was going to do this." Dr. Carrington said as she takes Grace's wrist into her hand and counts her pulse. "Her pulse is getting stronger. It seems like her body is trying to heal itself. But we won't know if she'll have any repercussions from lack of blood to her brain until she wakes up."

"If she wakes up" Terrell mumbles under his breath.

Dr. Carrington walks over behind Terrell and places her hand on his shoulder and squeezes it.

"You need food and a shower. Go to the cafeteria and then go take a shower. I'll stay by her side just in case she wakes up. If she does I will call you." Terrell nods his head and gets up from his seat stretching.

"Thank you. For helping her." She nods her  head at him and he walks out of the room.

Dr. Carrington sits beside her bedside reading a book while Terrell is gone. Grace doesn't even stir.

After about an hour and a half Terrell walks back into the hospital room, looking at Grace.

" She hasn't woken up. She hasn't even moved." Dr. Carrington says sadly.

Terrell lets his head hang low as he walks over to where Carrington is. She gets up and they switch places. She looks at her watch. I'm going to do my rounds while I can. If she wakes up, page me."

Terrell nods his head and she excuses herself from the room, closing the door quietly behind her.

He turns his head back to look at her sleeping. Her chest was slowly rising and falling.

When the sun comes out of the clouds it shines perfectly onto her face and hair and she looks angelic.

"I love you Grace. I'm in love with you. I'm sorry I didn't do right by your father and I didn't protect you like I should've and I feel like I failed you both. Just give me one more chance to prove I can be the man you deserve. I won't leave your side ever again please. I can't lose you. Wake up beautiful."

The monitor starts beeping faster and Terrell lifts his head from her lap looking at her face. She opens her eyes slowly and smiles at him.

Terrell's heat starts to race and he grabs the hospital pager and presses the button a trillion times as he holds Grace's hand. He feels tears trickle down his face as the door is pushed open and Dr. Carrington runs in. She rushes to Grace's side.

"Grace? Can you hear me?"

Grace opens her mouth and starts coughing. But she nods her head.

"I have to take her breathing tube out. She tilts her head back and yanks the tube out of her throat. Grace coughs a little bit more. "How do you feel?"

"O-Okay" Grace's voice is brittle and hoarse.

"You've been asleep for a week. If you don't feel good it's okay." Dr. Carrington says calmly. Grace just smiles.

" I feel a little weak," She says quietly. Dr. Carrington nods her head.

"I can take care of that." She walks over to the cabinets. Grace looks over at Terrell who has tears in his eyes. She squeezes his hand.

"I love you too Terrell. I always have. You didn't let my father down and you didn't disappoint me either. I gave into a bad moment in my life. It was me, not you." She said as she looked him in his eyes. He starts to cry as he holds her hand.

"I'm sorry I wasn't there to help you recover. You needed me and I let work consume me. I got everything squared away now I have time off..."

His voice trails off.

Grace's POV

" I made a promise when you were laying there, that if you would give me just one more chance that I would make it right. Now that you're awake, I have something I need to ask. " He says as he stands up letting go of my hand. He got down on his knees, one leg forward and pulled a black box from his pocket.

"Grace, will you marry me?" I start to tear up.

I feel my world start to spin, my tongue feels tied and all of a sudden my words elude me.

I cry of happiness and shake my head yes.

If I can't speak I will at least nod my head. I can't leave him hanging. I love this man.

He got up from his knees and slid the ring on my finger, leaning down and planted a kiss on my lips.

"Ahem" I hear Dr. Carrington awkwardly cleared her throat. We both look over at her with huge smiles on our faces. She is smiling too.

"I am happy for you both, but I need to make sure you truly are okay. I need to run tests and get these fluids in you to help boost your body." She says as she walks over to the IV bag and switches them over.

"Dr. Carrington, will you come to our wedding?" I blurt out. She pauses what she is doing and glances over at me, shocked in her eyes.

"Yes I will. But first I need to make sure you're going to be alright to leave the hospital." She says as she resumes fixing my IV bag.

Terrell leans over me, kissing me once more and whispering he loves me.

Never would I picture that my life would take a turn for the better. I really thought I was going to die. I love you Terrell Norris Clarricoates. I cannot wait to get out of here and walk down the aisle and begin our journey as husband and wife forever...
