Chapter 3 Dance With Me pt 1
After the fight we had, the next couple days were awkward. We did not talk or make much eye contact.
An entire week went by and we had not spoken but the bare minimum.
Finally Terrell was the one to break our silence by inviting me to go to the arcade inside the mall with him. I agree to go with him, just to get out of the house.Walking in I feel something horrific is about to occur.
I look around and right away notice him, Simon, my ex-boyfriend. My father encouraged me to date him about a year ago. Seeing as Simon is Dad's best friend's son, Dad thought he would be a fitting match.Early in my relationship with Simon, he displayed his true colors. He took to verbally abusing me, belittling me, and suggesting things that I had experienced never happened the way I remembered them.
I chose to confront him. I remember his fit of rage; he slapped me across my face hard enough it blurred my vision for 2 days. On more than one occasion he grabbed me and threw me into a wall or down the stairs as he saw fit.Publicly, Simon portrayed our relationship to be very loving. To outsiders he appeared smitten by me. Neither my father nor his knew the truth. It took five months to escape Simon.
I can't be seen by him! What will he do?I pull Terrell around the corner toward me, causing him to look at me with a puzzled expression.
"I need you to do something for me." Again he just looks at me.
"Terrell! I need your help!" He looks around and then back to me and nodded.
"My ex is here! Pretend to be my boyfriend." I could feel my heart start to beat faster. He looks around the corner and then back to me."Quick! But you have to take off the mask though" I said frantically. He nods and we walk around the corner catching Simon's attention.
I pull Terrell in close, "He can't know you're my bodyguard" I whisper. "Please hurry" I say, panic rising through my body. "I know you want to" I tease.
A tiny smirk comes across my face as he reaches for his mask and allows one side to fall. I strive to maintain my composure and not let my jaw drop as I will finally see his beautiful face.
His face is the height of perfection, as if it were sculpted to honor the Greek gods! His nose is pierced; a small silver hoop wrapping the underside of his left nostril. His lips were thin, pink and very luscious. I badly desired to reach up and kiss him, but I knew that it would be breaking the unspoken trust he has for me. After a couple minutes pass just staring at him, I glance over and see Simon left the arcade.
I exhale a breath of relief realizing Simon has left.
"Okay, he's gone."
Terrell puts his face mask back on and we play some of the games in the arcade. When we arrive home I notice a familiar SUV was parked in the driveway. I became overly excited and leap out of the car and run inside.
"Daddddd!!!!" I scream, tears starting to form in my eyes. I ran to him and hug him tightly. He has been gone for four months but it felt so much longer than that! That's the longest he's ever been away, and even though I have Terrell, I still miss my father.
He quickly hugs me back.
" Hi baby girl!" He says as he holds me to his chest. "Honey, I know I've been gone for a while but I'm making it up to you. We're going to a masquerade ball tonight. Have Terrell take you to the store and buy a nice dress."
I glance back at Terrell who is smiling at me with his big award winning grin.
"Did you know he was coming home?!" I exclaim.
"Yes" he replies, his smile only getting bigger.
My stomach was turning with happiness and, without thinking, run over and wrap my arms around his abdomen, forcing him into a hug while he awkwardly pats my back. I look up at him who was looking over at my father for a sense of approval. I glance over at my father who is smiling at us.
"It's okay son, hug her back, she's excited." He said.
With my father's permission, I felt his arms wrap around my body holding me tight. I felt my stomach fill with butterflies and my heart beat increases, the way he makes me feel every time we touch. I just enjoy being in his embrace until it ends all too quickly. He clears his throat and tells my father he will have me back with plenty of time to get ready for the ball.I find a gorgeous burgundy dress that fits my curves perfectly, the bust has lace lining it, the dress is exquisite, a dress one could say were made for a princess. I specifically choose that one just because I notice a flicker in Terrells eyes as he watches me smooth out the dress standing in front of the mirror. I want him to see me as a lover, not just some girl he protects.
After I chose the dress, he got a matching tie and then he surprises me with ice cream.Upon arriving back home, we have more than enough time to get ready just as Terrell promised, and head to the ball. For once I'm excited to go to a ball with my father.
Father tells Terrell that he does not need to wear his face mask tonight, that he wants him to blend in more as an 'intended'.
Whatever that means. We walk into the giant ballroom, my hand in Terrell's. There were about a million people there, dresses of all different colors and shades. Women are laughing and smiling and the room just puts off a happy aura. I start smiling just gazing at all the gowns.
Oddly enough, no one has a dress on with the same color as mine nor the shade. I wore my hair curled half up, allowing the bottom half to cascade down my back like a waterfall.
My eyes trace the room and I find myself staring at the couples that were swaying back and forth. My eyes light up as I look over at Terrell who is looking down at me. He smiles and gestures for us to head that way. I smile back at my dad who mouths, "Go on!".
