Welcome to West Victoria, please drive carefully.
the sign flashes by my window but i recognise the landscape almost immediatly.Large billowing willow trees, Beautiful wooden hand crafted arches being climbed by grape vines. The road gradually becomes emptier and by sundown we reach our ranch.Dad parks up inbetween Mum and Bradens cars each with a double trailer attached. To see the old house, the barn, the outdoor riding ring and the front pastures is like living in my past again.Memories start flooding back and i dwell in them for a while untill the sound of Gala and Barten whinnying at each other begins. They were in seperate trailers but now that they were both visible to one another they wont stop. They are siblings both black, tall, beautifull Friesians.Their mother died after Barten was born and Gala raised him like her own with the help from Mouse.Mouse is the kindest horse we own, she was a rescue and we know she lost her foal with her past owner due to abuse and neglect. We often use her as a 'foster mare' becuase of her kind nature and good manners that hopefully the little foal will learn from.Mum called me over from the pasture gate to help her unload her trailer. Hers caontains Mouse and Ruby. Ruby is a young filly that we found abandoned outside our old barn. She seemed wary of us when we first approached her but after she was in a stall she calmed down dramatically. After the vet had left from checking Ruby out we were officailly allowed to call her ours.It has only been 5 weeks but she has warmed up to us and the other horses. While i am lowering the trailer door Braden walks past us with his gelding Butter and his mare Caramel.Butter is a Welsh section C with a Lemon and white coat and he style a mane that I usually put into a running braid whilst caramel is a English thouroughbred with a deep chesnut coat with a flaxen mane. Both equines are wearing deep turquiose coolers with matching headcollars.Braden turns the corner and I envy him. I can't wait for the day I get my first horse that is mine.Sure it's great being raised with 6 horses but i'm always hovering between them and I can only use one if they arent busy with something. So having my own would feel amazing.Of course i would still help with the others but i would spend more one to one time with my own special horse.
