Melody's P.O.V.
I played upbeat music on my way home. I know I tried to not get involved with James but I couldn't say no when he asked me out. I'm happy he asked, something about that wolf kept me coming back to him. I have been avoiding him, I really tried to when I could but even then I'm drawn to him. I pull into my garage and head inside. I immediately notice someone has been here. I quietly start to stealth around my own house that someone was now in trying to at least get to a weapon.
All of a sudden someone grabs me from behind. I elbow them in the stomach to get them to let go. Even with the slight panic in my system I immediately then turn around and knee them in the head before pinning them to the wall next to the mantle in the living room. The force of the impact of them against the wall sends the photo frames onto the floor. I keep them pinned by having my forearm against their throat finally taking in who was in front of me.
"Looks like I still need to work on my land combat skills Princess," Urchin, one of my personal guards, laughs. They are a good foot taller than me with their warm terra-cotta skin and undercut of deep violet hair.
"You should know better than to sneak up on me!" I say as I take a step back letting go of them before going back in for a hug. "I thought you and everyone else would be dead or imprisoned."
"Some were killed, there were many injured but most of us survived."
"I'm happy to see you...how's my father?...is he...is he dead?" I pull back dreading the worst outcome.
"His Majesty is okay. There is a good amount of recovery to do. Not only were lives lost in the hard but there were also civilian casualties. Your father sent me to relay a message and attempt to convince you to stay here as war may be imminent. He believes this attack will not be the only one."
"I want to see the state of the kingdom myself."
"That's exactly what we thought you would say."
"Well, I can't just sit here while my people fight and die in my name!"
"I understand Princess. Your father is willing for you to come back for a short time to set up a plan for you to live on land while this mess is cleaned up."
"Okay, let's home then Urchin," I say as I am already heading towards the back door. I quickly stash my glasses and phone where they go when I'm not here. I start to sprint to the waves and then I remember, James. I turn back around, I feel terrible having to just go without warning. I quickly send him a text saying "I'm sorry I have to reschedule our date since something came up". I hit send and put my phone away again. Urchin is waiting for me right by the edge of the shore. I catch up to him and dive into the water I call home.
