James POV
I wake up to a knock on my door. I look over at the clock on my nightstand seeing it's only 6 am. I groan and get up to see what is going on now.I open my door to see my beta Jackson, "I'm sorry to wake you up James, but someone walked into our territory and we haven't seen them before. Their scent seems human but something's off," he informs me.
I let out a small sigh.
"Alright I'll go check it out, but you get to come with me," I say tiredly as I fix my brown hair and walk out of the pack house.
We both change into our wolves, I'm a big reddish brown wolf while Jackson is a chestnut brown wolf.
"So which way are we heading?" I ask him over the mind link.
"The shore," he replies quickly before we run off in the right direction. As we get close we change back and put on the clothes we brought with us. We walk closer to the shore and then I am captivated by the smell of the ocean with a hint of mint. I follow the smell to the shore only to see a girl with the most beautiful blonde hair walking across the beach.
"Mate," I whisper to myself feeling my wolf wanting to take over and go talk to her. I watch her as she walks along the shore she picks up another piece of trash and I listen to her saying how annoying and careless people can be, completely captivated by the sound of her beautiful voice.
I smile as she stops again and I hear her softly say, "Hey little guy," to something I move closer to see what she's talking to.
There's a small crab stuck in the sand and I hear her whisper, "I'll help you just don't pinch me."
I smile as she picks up the crab who doesn't fight her or try to grab onto her. She walks it to the edge of the ocean she places the crab down and it scurries off. Jason pulls me out of my trance of watching my new mate by hitting me on the back of the head.
"What is up with you?" He says looking over at the girl.
"She's pretty hot for a human," he states and I let out a growl. Jason gave me a weird look but brushes it off. We head towards the girl to see why she is on our land since most people don't wander this far. I can't help but get excited as we move closer to my mate, to meet her for the first time.
"Hey," Jason calls out to her in a friendly matter even if she is human as far as we know she's my mate. She turns around only for me to see the most amazing blue eyes hidden behind a pair of glasses. There is fear in her eyes as she turns around and it all disappears when her eyes meet mine.
"Hi," I smile brightly after a minute of us staring at each other.
"Hello," she says back softly with a blush across her cheeks.
"I'm James," I tell her.
"Melody," she smiles.
"Did you get lost? Usually, no one walks this far into a private beach," I say to her unable to take my eyes off of her.
"Oh I'm sorry I had no idea that this part of the beach belonged to someone else," she says surprised. "I can go if-"
"no it's okay," I say quickly cutting her off. She nods and moves away from the rising waves. "So where did you move from beautiful?" I ask knowing she was new to town.
