Melody's POV

"Melody you have to go!" my Dad says to me urgently as the castle was under attack by the rouges.

"I love you," I say as my eyes fill with tears.

I hug my Dad tightly as I am lead away before using my powerful dark blue tail with silver speckles to swim away quickly from my home and the only family I have ever known. I swim through the dark water until I reached the shore where my Father took me when he had meetings on land or for emergencies like now, there was a small house on the shore he kept in tack for us to stay at during the rare time we ventured outside the waves.

As I get close to the shore the ongoing rouge attack and the events that led up to this. All issues in the kingdom I was next in line to lead, have been having the past few years with a group of rouges. They don't have many reasons to attack other than being banished from the oceans by my father who is the current king. If you haven't figured out I'm a mermaid and not just any one of the most powerful mermaids alive who just so happens to be the only heir to the throne. It was a lonely life growing up with my overprotective Dad and him not being around that much since he was ruling the ocean alone. It was always just the two of us and now I'm leaving him behind not knowing if I will get to see him again.

When I reach the shore I pop my head out of the water and move my blonde hair out of the way before scanning the shore for people. It was late at night so it was completely empty. I swim and slowly drag myself onto the beach to dry off. I use my powers to dry off my tail quickly before my legs appear. I have shorts and a t-shirt on from last the I was here. I wobbly get up and take a few steps trying to get used to walking instead of swimming. I look around only to see blurry outlines of the houses. I don't have perfect eyesight when above water, it happens to a lot of mermaids, seeing underwater is a lot different than above so my blue eyes just couldn't work as well here but I have perfect sight in the water. I walk over to the house I remember as mine and get the key hidden in the backyard before unlocking the back door and heading in. It was clear no one has been here for a long time but my old pair of glasses are still sitting where I left them last time. I put them on and the inside of the house became clearer I was able to see the layer of dust that coated almost everything. I turn on the light and see the pictures in the house of my Dad and I. I stop and look at one from last year and within seconds I was letting out sobs unsure of the future to come. I sat on the couch and pulled my knees in close as I let the pain of what I was required to do washed over me, the worry for my father, my people, and if I could ever return home without it being an imminent death sentence if the rouges take over. I felt utterly lost, all I was born to do was to protect my kingdom and it's people but I'm on land doing nothing but crying my eyes out. I don't remember how long I sat there crying before falling asleep on the couch.

The next morning I got up early and change into a tank top and jean shorts I sit on the couch looking out into space for a few minutes feeling empty and just really an overwhelming sense of nothingness. I put up my hair and clean up the house before going out to the garage which has a small car sitting in there. I go to get a phone, new clothes, food, sign up for school, and a pair of glasses that framed my face better, and anything else I needed to seem like a normal human living here. I get back about 7 hours later wearing my new black square shape glasses and carrying all my bags back in. I put everything away and head up to my room. I put my favorite picture of my dad and I on my nightstand before going to bed early to get up in the morning for school. I wake up around dawn and change into just a t-shirt and athletic shorts and put on a pair of flip-flops before slipping outside to walk along the shore. I smile as I see the waves hitting the shore I already miss home but this is as close as I get. I happily walk through the sand but frown when I see trash washed up, I pick it up and keep walking along the coast making sure I didn't touch the water so I wouldn't grow a tail. I continue picking up trash as I go along cursing out humanity under my breath.
