warnings: blood, death, angstttttttttt, very minor fluff

You slammed into Lila's back, tackling her to the ground as Five ran toward the barn. She twisted under you, and before you knew it she had you pinned, your arms above your head and her knee digging into your stomach.

"You really think a little girl can stop me?" she hissed in your ear. You took the opportunity to screech like a dying goat in her own ear, and she cursed and rolled off of you in surprise, giving you enough time to leap to your feet and bolt into the barn after Five.

You ended up running right into him, feeling his arms wrap around you as the pair of you stumbled backwards a few steps. "Y/N oh my God-"

"You're okay, it's okay," you said quickly, pressing a panicky kiss to his lips before shoving him deeper into the barn. "You need to hide, she's gonna come for-"

Suddenly, Lila appeared in a flash of blue behind Five, grabbing his shoulders roughly and pulling him away from you. He cursed and tried to teleport away, but she tightened her grip over and over again until he was gasping for breath.

"You're going to watch him die," she said, her eyes wide with something like insanity. A thirst for violence. A longing for revenge.

"Lila please," you started, taking a step towards her. You had no powers for her to mimic, and that made you more confident. She couldn't take anything from you except Five. "Why do you want to kill him? What's he ever done to-"

"He killed my parents," she spat, and Five let out a little yelp as her grip became deadly.

"Lila please-"

"NO! He KILLED my PARENTS! I could've been an ordinary girl with an ordinary life if he hadn't come along and MURDERED THEM!" Five's nails scrabbled at her hand as it pressed against his windpipe, but her eyes were fixated on you. And they weren't moving.

There was only one thing left for you to do.

You lunged at her, slamming into Five's chest and in turn making her stagger backwards and release her grip on him. You rolled off of his chest and found yourself looking down the barrel of a pistol.

Before she could say anything, Five had knocked the gun from Lila's hand, sending it flying across the room. They jumped for it at the same time, slamming into each other as you staggered to your feet. Five was trying to get Lila's arm into a death grip, but she kept slipping out of his grasp, taking a step back before launching herself into the fight again.

You grabbed one of her hands and dug your nails into her skin, wrenching her arm away from Five with everything in you. He took the opportunity to grab the gun and point it at her head.

Then she started laughing.

"Go ahead, shoot me," she said, amusement sparkling in her eyes. "What's left for me to live for? Just kill me now and get it over with. What's one more life on your hands?"

You stared at the woman, the flurry of emotions darting around in her irises, and dropped her hand. She didn't move.

"Y/N," Five mumbled, and you backtracked to stand beside him. He was trembling, and you cast him a glance and slipped your hand into his.

"I got you," you whispered, just loud enough for him to hear. "I got you."

He didn't want to kill her. He'd said it himself, he was done with the killing. He never wanted to hurt someone, ever again.

But you both knew that wasn't an option.

He pulled the trigger.

And nothing happened.
