ONE AFTERNOON, I was in the forest, just walking around. I was thinking about hiccup's weird behavior. what could he possibly be hiding?

did he have a girlfriend? no that's hiccup we're talking about. it's impossible.

what other possibilities could be real? what was so big and important, that hiccup was hiding it from us?

I heard leaves rustling around me, and I turned and saw hiccup, he was standing there with something in his hand. he looked at me, startled and ran away.

I squinted at him and followed. he ran behind a rock, but as I looked over it, I couldn't see him. I groaned in frustration and walked back.

I was walking back to my hut one night when I heard something falling and other chaotic noises, so as curious as I was, I went to see what it was.

"hiccup? are you in there?" I called out and the little window opened up to show his face.

"hi sif. hi sif. hi sif!" he said, acting weird.

"I don't usually pay that much attention to what people do, but you're acting weird" I stated. suddenly, he started going higher, and higher up the window and then he got pulled in and I gasped out so loud and screamed, then realized that it was in the middle of the night and slapped a hand over my mouth.

"hiccup?" I whispered as I pushed open one door, but nothing was on the other side of it. I looked around perplexed, but sighed nonetheless and went home.

"no! no! son of a half troll, rat eating, munge bucket!" astrid yelled, throwing around her axe.

"so later......" hiccup said, trying to get away, but gobber stopped him.

"I'm kinda late for-"

"what are you late for?" I asked him as I walked up behind him. glancing at him suspiciously.

"ok. quiet down. the elder has decided" stoick said, and gobber stood behind us, between me and hiccup and the elder stared down at us.

he held a hand above my head, but the elder shook her head, and the crowd gasped as the murmers went around the circle. he then held his hand above hiccup, hesitantly but he still did.

the elder nodded.

the villagers roared and cheered as she announced the winner.

i was humiliated. it felt terrible to be rejected, but I also felt....relief?

it was almost as if... i never really wanted to kill a dragon, and I felt relieved because I no longer held that responsibility.

hiccup grimaced when he realized that he had been chosen. and gobber started complimenting him. hiccup looked to me and I gave him a small smile, and he seemed surprised. probably assuming that I really wanted to kill the dragon. but astrid was very furious. she had always wanted to be the one who killed a dragon, but she wasn't even one of the options in the end, so she just left.
