Disclaimer: Anything you recognise I do not own. Also I just thought the image of Rowan was so cute!!!!!!!

"Good luck!" Cassian called as he and the rest of the Court walked away. I grinned and saluted him. He rolled his eyes but laughed. I didn't feel nervous at all, not like the other times.

I had trained with Cassian yesterday until he had duties to attend to, then I spent the afternoon sparring with Casteel. I admit it was awkward for the first twenty minutes but then I felt more comfortable around him and it was nice. I finally got to know him. I learned he matched my ego and he was hilarious. I hoped we would be good friends. Until I went home of course. That put a damper on my mood. I almost didn't want to go home if it meant leaving him. What was I saying? Of course I wanted to go home! I wouldn't stay for anyone, no matter how handsome.

The bell rang, bringing me back to reality. I swung my sword by my side and started up the ramp.   I followed the marshal into the centre of the arena and took a look at my opponent. It was a man, covered in grey paint. As I got closer I realised that the man-if it even was a man- was made from stone. It had glowing red eyes with no pupil. It was unnaturally still, was it even breathing? Did it need to breathe? It carried no weapon but I supposed when you had hands made of stone you didn't need one. I tightened my grip on my sword as I felt its strange gaze. I kept my eyes on it as the Marshalls ran to separate sides of the arena. The gong sounded. The stone warrior didn't move. I braced myself, ready for an attack. But it wasn't a physical one like I had expected.

I felt its magic prob me and it felt greasy against my skin. It didn't feel natural. I shuddered. The magic didn't hurt me, it was feeling me almost curiously.

I wanted this to be over as quickly as possible. I charged and swung my sword at the stone head. The impact flung me backwards. I rolled and came up, gaping at me shattered sword. What the-

The stone warrior simply tilted its head at me inquisitively. It moved slowly, as if getting used to its body. The stone rumbled as it advanced towards me.

I backed away reaching for my daggers, maybe if I got it in the eye. I raised my arm to throw but quick as lightening, the warrior grabbed my wrist. How had it gotten beside me so quickly? Its stone grip was tight and coarse against my skin. I bit back a yelp. It squeezed tighter forcing me to drop the dagger. All the while its crimson eyes never left me.

"OW!" Right. Magic time. I released my magic and watched as it washed over the stone in waves. I nearly recoiled at the sensation. It was almost as if there was a force inside of the stone, controlling its movements like a puppeteer. I felt an ancient magic brush against mine.

Yesssssss. A voice hissed in my head. I jumped and backed away, taking advantage of its shock. There was a ring of blood around my wrist where it had grabbed me.

You will be my queen. Ok maybe it was a bad idea to use magic. I felt its desire and love pulse through the bond my magic created. I shut off the stream of magic and flinched at the shriek that followed. The warrior lunged and grabbed hold of my arm again. Against my will, my magic shot out and the warrior took hold of it tighter.

More. Fear paralysed me and I struggled against the steel grip. Immediately pictures appeared in my mind. An army of stone warriors, over one hundred thousand, all marching through mountains. I saw my first pet, a puppy that had drowned, back alive. I saw halls of food and gold. I ripped my magic away fiercely and watched as the stone warrior moaned. I gathered my magic to me firmly.

Need more. I sprinted away and watched as the stone warrior slumped to its knees and then fell. Red mist lifted from it and rose above the arena and into the sky. I remained frozen, trembling with terror. The gong sounded again. I stumbled out of the arena, noting the audience remained silent for once. I blinked against the sunlight, still in shock. Arms came around me and I briefly recognised Casteel. I hugged him back, trying to get rid of the phantom feel.

"What was that?" Rhysand and the rest of the court rushed to us. Someone winnowed us and I relaxed at the sight of the town house.

"I-I don't know...It was like an ancient magic was controlling the stone."

"We felt the magic." Mor told me as she put a blanket around my shoulders. I hadn't realised I had been shivering.

"It showed me images. I think it was trying to prove that it could provide for me, that it would be a good mate." I felt a brush against my mental shields and allowed Rhysand into my brain, showing him what it had shown me.

"I've never seen anything like it." He breathed after a moment and a few of the Court shook their heads so I assumed he had shown them too.

"If it was telling the truth, that means it has an army." Cassian said and Rhys nodded.

"We had better inform the other High Lords, they need to rally their forces." I met Casteel's eye and knew the look in them.

Everything was about to change.
