❝It's hard to watch people change, but it's harder to remember who they used to be❞

COPENHAGEN, DENMARK

1712

Alexandria Pirenne was not an easy woman to track down, quite the opposite actually. It took Carlisle five years to find the woman after he left the Volturi roughly a decade after joining them. But eventually he managed to find her in the city of Copenhagen, Denmark, where she had taken up presence of a noble woman, who lived in a castle near the capital.

At first glance Alexandria was beyond excited to see her old friend again, she had missed him dearly. Alexandria however had grown quite intuitive over the course of her long life, and she almost immediately noticed the change in the man.

His smile when he saw her was one of relief, not apparent happiness. He was slouching which was very unusual behavior for a vampire especially Carlisle. But most of all his eyes had lost their glow, the glow that they had regained after he had spent about fifteen years with Alexandria after she found him fresh out of the sewer, face full of despair.

Now Alexandria had never held anything against the Volturi, actually she had always considered them a necessity, of course she had gone on her fair acre of rampages as a newborn but Iasonas had always made sure to light the towns on fire when she was done so that the deaths didn't appear mysterious in any way. That is of course until she picked up on the laws of being a vampire and killed him.

Anyhow Alexandria understood the need for secrecy, and the need for some sort of government, but seeing what they had done to Carlisle, her Carlisle made a hatred grow inside her. They had broken the one person she had allowed herself to care about for more than six centuries.

And she would never forget. And she would never forgive.

COLUMBUS, OHIO

1911 - 1918

Over the years Alexandria and Carlisle reconnected and became like brother and sister once more. His eyes regained their usual glow at Alexandria gentle acceptance of his identity as a vegetarian vampire.

But his eyes had never grown brighter than that day at the hospital in 1911. A young girl by the name of Esme Platt came in with a broken arm, Alexandria was assigned as her nurse and Carlisle as her doctor, and the second the younger of the two vampires laid eyes upon the girl, his entire world changed. He had finally found her. He had found his mate.

Alexandria couldn't help the jealousy that build up in the pit of her stomach. It was unfair, Carlisle was her best friend, her family and had been so for almost 300 years, yet here came this random girl walking in the door. A girl whom the man didn't even know. And she was going to steal away Alexandrias Carlisle.

But what made her even more angry than the apparent jealousy, was Carlisles decision to let Esme go on living her life as if nothing had happened in Carlisles undead heart. Alexandria would slaughter the entire world to be reunited with the man she knew had been her soulmate. Her beloved Demetri. And here Carlisle was throwing away his only chance at true happiness, the kind of happiness Alexandria had felt when she was married to Demetri 900 years ago, the kind of happiness that made Alexandria wish that she could still dream.

Whether it was one reason or the other Alexandria couldn't tell you, all she knew what that the incident of meeting Esme Platt changed the relationship between Carlisle and Alexandria permanently.

This is probably also part of the reason that Alexandria choose to go her own ways in 1918 when Carlisle first decided he was going to change someone into a vampire. Ever since he met Esme those 7 years prior he went on and on about starting a family of people in need.

And that family just so happened to start with Edward.

Alexandria would never admit it but she desperately wanted to stay, to settle down, have a family in the way she never got to have in her human life, but she couldn't

She couldn't rid getting attached, especially now that the Volturi had their eye on her, it would put everything at risk, and she wouldn't so that to her companion, her brother, her family. She couldn't. So she left - the fear of being left ended with her being alone to protect herself. In retrospect that might not be the smartest way to handle ones fears. But Alexandria didn't know what else to do.

SOFIA,  BULGARIA

PRESENT DAY

Alex and Carlisle made sure to keep in contact over the years, Alexandria had met the entire Cullen family with the exception of the newest member, Isabella Swan who seemed to have stolen the heart of her best friend on the entire earth, (minus Carlisle but he was more of a brother than a friend) Edward Cullen.

She supposed the two had found a sort of unity in loneliness, but it didn't really matter because she loved him. She could never love him as more than a friend because she still loved and missed him. Nonetheless Alex would go to the ends of the earth for Edward. She would for all the Cullens really.

So much for not getting attached she would think when she decided to live with them for shorter periods of time.

So Alex didn't hesitate to pack up what little she owned and rush towards Volterra, Italy when she heard the news of Isabella Swans death, and Edwards suicide wish. She had made a promise all those years ago that she would never lose someone again. And that was a promise she intended to keep. She would not lose her best friend because she was stupid enough to let her guard down and get attached. She was going to face the Volturi. And she was going to save him. Even if it killed her.
