HERAKLION, CRETE.

AROUND 1000 AD.

Sweat trickled down her forehead as Alexandria Pirenne ran through the narrow streets, her family and herself had gotten the privilege of being able to travel far, all the way to the city of Heraklion to see this, she was beyond excited, the royal family was coming to Crete, now this had become a less foreign phenomenon in the last few years, but it was Alexandrias first time of being old enough to understand its meaning "mamá, mamá" the 14 year old girl called out after her poor mother who unfortunately still had a limp from a rough child birth - this being the reason her and her husband had settled only for a single child - and therefore could not keep up with her daughter "Alexandria wait"  Her mother called after her, but it was too late, her utmost loved daughter had already disappeared into the mass of people lining up along the street.

"Alexandria, my daughter, where are you?"  Alexandria could faintly hear her mother calling, but she was simply too filled with excitement to answer to her mothers calls. The little girl couldn't see anything amongst the crowd of much larger people, and up falling flat on her behind after bumping in to a much larger boys back. The boy turned around to see the little girl lying on the ground, and held out his hand for her, the little girl took his hand and let him help her up, before she brushed off her skirt, her mother would surely kill her for being a disturbance "Sorry sir, I wasn't looking"  Alexandria rushed out "That's quite alright, I am Demetri"  the man greeted, "Alexandria" she presented giving him her hand, which he gave a kiss.

Alexandria could feel her cheeks heat up at Demetris kind gesture, she stared into his eyes for a while before the two were broken out of  their moment by Alexandrias mom coming up to the pair "Alexandria, you scared me!" she exclaimed before turning to Demetri "Sir I am so sorry for the disturbance"  she apologized "oh do not be it is quite alright" he answered with a polite nod and smile, he turned back to Alexandria and continued "I hope to see you again madam, but now I must be off, enjoy the festival ladies" he said before disappearing in to the crowd of people again, leaving Alexandria swooning.

ARCHANES, CRETE

A FEW WEEKS LATER

Demetri beyond lucky when he spotted her, never had he imagined to see the girl in this small town after meeting her on the islands capital all those weeks ago, it must've been fate for her to live in the same small town as himself "Alexandria" he called. Said girl looked up from where she was getting water for the breakfast, "Demetri?" the girl asked with a beaming smile crossing her features "what on earth are you doing here in Archanes?" she asked him.

"Well my lady I happen to live here" he answered with a slight chuckle, she started rapidly shaking her head "I am not a lady" she stated looking down at her worn dress, that she wore every day when helping her mother with the house work, while her father was at work building in a large city near theirs, it had taken their entire life savings to go to Heraklion to see the royals, but now it was back to every day life - the dream was over - except for apparently Demetri. "To me you are" he answered, ever the charmer, "So my lady, if I might ask, why have I never seen you in these streets?" he asked, Alexandria blushed "Mother keeps me home for bible studies and house chores" she answered truthfully, her mother cared deeply about Alexandria some day making a good wife, and that meant knowing her duties as a future wife both in the house and those stated in the Bible.

"Now I really must be on my way, mother is waiting for the water and father has a long day ahead of him, he needs the water before he is to leave," "Let me help you" Demetri offered carrying the bucket of water for the young girl, who quite frankly struggled to lift the heavy weight of the water "you really do not need to sir I am certain you have better things to do than helping the poor" she said nervously reaching for the bucket now in Demetris hands, but he simply pulled away "I am a soldier, I have just returned home from guarding the royal visit, I am free to do as I please, and it pleases me to help you out my lady" He replied, leaving Alexandria speechless, she was a nobody, a young poor girl who didn't have much to live for, yet he wanted to help her, how peculiar it all seemed "so my lady; lead the way." he said, and so the two young ones started walking towards the Pirenne house in a slow tempo, talking about everything between the earth and the sky.
