VOLTERRA, ITALY - VOLTURI CASTLE

2009

Demetri and Alex walked slowly down the corridors hand in hand, indulging in a comfortable silence. They had much to talk about, and much to prepare now that Alexandria had joined the Volturi.

They made it to a beautiful red-themed yet almost completely dark bedroom, seeing the room Alexandria was quick to put together that it belonged to her former husband, though they never divorced or anything of the sort, they both had an understanding that a thousand years was too much for something almost nonexistent to stand untouched through.

The sight of the room broke Alexandrias heart, it reminded her that even if she never had the ability to move on, Demetri had found a way to do so. He had a family, one that possibly included countless lovers over the years - or even worse maybe he only had one. A chosen one. Someone to fill the void Alexandria had left behind. Maybe that kiss had just been him caught up in the moment.

The thought sent bubbles of discomfort and slight fear coursing though her, up until now she hadn't even for a second considered the possibility that maybe he didn't see her like he used to, maybe he had reunited with a friend while she had reunited with a long lost lover.

She was broken out of her thoughts when Demetri spoke her name "Alexandria-" he started looking at her completely lost for words. Alex feared it was because he didn't know how to reject her little did she know that she would soon found out that it was simply because he was taken aback not just by her sudden appearance but by her beauty. She was just as beautiful as he remembered her - in a different way of course due to her vampirism.

"you're beautiful" he breathed out in complete astonishment, "t-thanks, you are too" she stuttered with a small smile "Alexandria I-" "if you were alive why did you never come back for me?" she cut him off station the most important question on her mind. Why did she spend a thousand years on her own when he had been right there, alive, all along?

"You deserved better" he stated, "better than this immortal existence. This isn't what you wanted Lex. You wanted a family, kids, a simple human life, and I could no longer give you that. So I stayed away, I figured you would just mourn me and then find someone new. Move one." he elaborated. The nickname, Lex, sent butterflies coursing though her. No one had ever called that they usually took to calling her by 'Alex' or just her full name which she preferred, but she really liked the name. Especially coming from him.

"So..." he looked at her trying to read her silence, but whether he liked to admit or not - he didn't know the woman before him. Not like he used to anyhow. "I love you" she blurted out after a while. Because she did. She loved him with all her heart, and all of her sense. Her entire being ached to be in his arms again, to have her lips locked with his.

"I love you too" he smiled, "you've changed" he stated. "your eyes." he continued. This confused Alexandria, of course they had changed, she was a vampire now, naturally they would turn red. Seeing her confused expression he elaborated "they don't glow the same" that sentence took Alexandrias breath away. Well, figuratively. He remembered her eyes, just like she remembered his, they didn't glow either, not like they used to when she looked into the depth of them. They were deeper now, but much more matte.

"yours don't either" she countered, with a sad smile. They both knew why the others eyes didn't glow. It was the things they had seen. The things they had done. That had been done to them.

"tell me why?" he said with a question in his voice. And so she did, she told him about the grief, the starvation, Iasonas, her transition into a vampire, all that she had done, how hard it was seeing Carlisle loose himself and how it was even harder to see him find himself again in the eyes of Esme - which at the time reminded her of her own loss.

By the time she was finished they both had unshed tears of venom in their eyes, Demetri brought her in for a tight embrace, apologizing over and over. But he didn't need to, she didn't blame him. He had had the best intentions in leaving all those years ago - and had she been in his position she would've done the same thing, it wasn't in any way his fault what happened to her.

"What about you?" she asked when she had regained hold of herself and withdrawn from Demetris embrace. "my story is not quite as violent" he chuckled "I was injured during the war, almost died on scene when Amun - the leader of the Egyptian coven - found me, he changed me and we traveled together for some years, he helped me develop my gift as a tracker, but I couldn't be happy, I couldn't think about anything but you, and I know that using moderne language it sounds 'cheesy' but it is true. I caught wind of the Volturi having someone with the ability of contentment, and I needed that - so I came here, and I've been here ever since." He explained to her

"contentment" she wondered out loud. "That's Corin right?" she asked with apprehension clear in her voice "yeess" he drew out quite confused at her tone before it hit him "are you jealous?" "yes!" she exclaimed, he chuckled before changing the subject, he didn't want to talk about Corin or how addicted to her he had become over the years.

"So Aro knew about you. Do you have a gift?" He asked "yeah" she said with a proud smile, "I have the power of intangibility" she said "the ability to pass through physical matter" she elaborated when she saw his confused expression.

The two talked for the rest of the night about their past, their ups and down. And their future, their hopes and dreams. They laughed and cried, but they were together again. Nothing else mattered.
