Miles' POV:

"Today, class." Miss Merryweather (weird-ass name, but I don't judge) announced, "You'll be starting a partner project that you have until the end of this semester to finish." Turning to write on the board, she started scribbling while dictating,
"This project will be about expectations. What do you want to do with your life, who do you want to be, and what do you think it takes to get there?" Please, been there, done that, this project is going to be a breeze. "Now, you and your partner will both have to go and explore the city, getting to know each other and finding more about yourselves. Then, you will individually write an essay concluding the investigation. You'll both be given a joint grade on the paper, which will be 40% of your grade for this year."

Jeez, Merryweather was really going off. 40%? Now I just hope I don't get put with one of the slackers. You know, the ones that only attend the Visions because their parents can afford it.
"I'll now announce your partners, so changing. These have been completely randomised."

Get on with it then.

She started listing names, and as all the other smart kids in my class slowly got taken, I got more and more worried. That is, until she said, "Miles and Jamie."

Heck yeah! Jamie, the cute girl who just happened to have the highest score in that advanced Physics exam. This was going to be a breeze, and I actually have an excuse to talk to her now!
I glanced over to her in front of me to my left, and she turned her head and waved at me, smiling. Jeez, my heart just did a backflip.

After class, I picked up my backpack and walked up to her while she was packing her things.
"So, we meet again." I simply said, and she looked up at me, immediately grinning.
"So we have."

Rushing into my room, I practically yelled, "Ganke!"
He abruptly woke up from his afternoon nap and jumped up, hitting his head on the bottom of my top bunk.
"Umm...ow!"
"Shit, sorry," I apologised, hardly paying attention to him rubbing his head in earnest. "But I just landed a date with Jamie!"
Ganke immediately stopped being dramatic and looked at me,
"You mean that cute girl in our social ecs class?"
"Yeah!"
"You. Landed a date with her." He raised an eyebrow at me, and I waved under his gaze.

"Okay, not date exactly, but I'm taking her around New York for a project, so I'm calling it a date." I responded indignantly. Ganke, why can't you just let me have this?

"Mhm. Sure, date." Ganke replied, looking me up and down, to which I ignored him and dumped my bag on the floor near my ladder.
"I'm gonna take her to Lady Liberty tonight and maybe we could get a lil closer," I continued, climbing the ladder.

"Bro, if you play your cards right, you could actually get her to like you." Ganke responded, and I gulped at the idea of us actually going on a date one day.
"That would be great."

Jamie's POV:

"Hey Tilly." I nonchalantly said as I went into my dorm and dumped my back on my bottom bunk. She replied with the same, eyes glued to the screen of our computer, typing frantically at a paper or something.

"What's the paper for?" I asked, looking over her shoulder at the screen.
"English," she responded, not batting an eye. At the top, the essay was titled, 'Dumb Ass Paper about Dicken's Dumb Ass Book. Kinda hoping she won't change that answer. ' "We have to write an essay about that book Great Expectations."
"Wow."
"What?"
"Advanced really takes these things to heart! We have to go around and actually make expectations in pairs."
"...That sounds like shit."
"Mhm. At least my partner might make it better."
"Who's your partner?"
"Miles Morales."

This was when Matilda finally looked up from her screen in awe.
"You're doing your great expectations project with Miles Morales?"
"...Yeah. Why? He some heartthrob or something?"
Tilly snorted. "Hell no. It's just everyone has heard of how he got asked to do a great expectations paper last year for extra credit. He aced that shit." She explained, and i raised an eyebrow, impressed, "He even made this cool graffiti spray paint somewhere in New York." Picking up her phone from the desk, she opened her gallery and started scrolling up, until she found what she was looking for. Tapping on a photo and holding up her phone, my eyes widened when I saw the familiar painting.

It was the one I saw in the sewer.

Of course it was the one I saw in the sewer.

"I saw that in a sewer across the city a few days ago," I commented, pretending I didn't care as much as I did. "Spider-Man showed up facing some random Hulk wannabe and ripped him to shreds."
"Bruh."
"Don't call me bruh."
"...Girl."
"Better."

"Girl, why are you just mentioning this now?" She exclaiming, turning off the computer. "You met Spider-Man?"
"Well, I was just there at the right time i guess," I reasoned, shrugging, before leaving Matilda and lying down on my bed. "Maybe I'll get Miles to take me there later when we meet up. I wanna know more about that painting." Looking in Matilda's direction, she was smirking at me, and I raised an eyebrow in curiosity. "What?"
Matilda just kept looking at me with that infuriatingly knowing gaze. Then she turned and faced her computer again.
"Mmmm...nothing."
