Eddie never really enjoyed birthdays. His 19th had been one of his worst and they'd gone downhill since then. But Sharon was planning a party and Eddie had reluctantly agreed to it. It was happening in the basement of their office building and Eddie had to admit-he was excited.
It had been two days since his call with Richie and they hadn't spoken since. Eddie had thought the call was awkward, especially given Richie's sudden gasps and silence and he even thought he'd maybe heard a moan. God knows what he'd been up to but Eddie pushes the thoughts away as a jealous twinge twists in his stomach like a bad knot you can't undo in a bit of rope or string.
He focuses on getting ready for his party instead. He's thrown on a gray shirt and some black jeans with a belt over them. He wants to look somewhat smart. Myra is wearing a pink floral dress. She doesn't usually like leaving the house and was hesitant with the party, but she'd decided to go anyway due to it being her husbands 40th.
That's the reason Sharon had thrown a party, because Eddie was turning 40. If it had been any other age, she wouldn't have bothered, but she considered 40 to be a big birthday so she wanted to make a big deal of it.
"I don't get why we have to get a cab!" Myra complains as Eddie walks downstairs. She's doing her hair, looking in the living room mirror. Eddie grabs his shoes and sits on the sofa to put them on.
"Because my car is still in the repair shop." He replies with a sigh. This is going to be a long evening. Myra rolls her eyes at Eddie's attitude and continues to spray loads of hairspray into her hair.
"Don't drink too much tonight. We don't want a repeat of Saturday." Myra states matter of factly. Eddie just nods silently, convinced he won't drink more than four alcoholic drinks. That's the number he knows makes him get all giddy.
Once the two are ready, they grab their jackets as it's mid-September, and they go out to their cab. Myra rambles the whole way there about Eddie drinking and he just nods silently, feeling relieved when they reach the office building.
Uptown Girl by Billy Joel plays as they enter. There's a snack table, filled with gluten-free food because of Eddie's allergies he supposedly had. He wasn't sure if he actually had any allergies or if his wife and his mother had made them up. There's also a drinks table, with both alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages. There's a DJ who Eddie is pretty sure is Sharon's twin brother. There's a cheap disco ball hanging up and Eddie looks around in amusement. It scream shitty office party in so many ways, yet it's kind of comforting.
"Hey, Eds is here!" Sharon cheers, rushing up to Eddie and Myra. Myra shoots her a disapproving glare at the nickname.
"It's Eddie or Edward." She states and Sharon's smile fades. Eddie just sighs and shrugs in apology.
"Happy birthday, dude! The big four zero!" Sharon says excitedly and Eddie grins. Myra watches the friends interaction, slightly jealous. She doesn't know that it's actually the men she needs to keep her husband away from.
"Thanks, yeah. It's crazy, truly. Never thought I'd make it this far." Eddie states and Sharon looks at him with concern.
"He's being overdramatic." She states and Sharon glances at her before looking worriedly back at Eddie.
"I was joking." He says softly to her and Sharon lets out an awkward giggle, making Myra glare even harder.
She doesn't leave Eddie's side for most of the night. She whines about how she wants to go home. Eddie's starting to get frustrated and he's on his third drink to get her away from him.
"Go home then!" He snaps at her as they sit at a table. Eddie's watching Sharon dance to Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.
"But you have to come with me!"Myra whines.
"No! Absolutely not. We've only been here two hours!" Eddie argues in protest. He doesn't want to leave. Sharon went to so much trouble organising this.
"EDUARDO!" Comes a voice and Eddie freezes. It's Richie and he's making his way over, carrying a small present and wearing a bright grin. He's dressed in a dark blue Hawaiian shirt with hot pink flowers all of them tucked into some black jeans. He really hasn't changed.
"Is that...the comedian guy?" Myra asks as Eddie stands up, going to Richie. Myra follows, not knowing that her husbands stomach is doing backflips and his heart rate is rising rapidly.
"Hey, Rich." Eddie greets but Richie's staring at Myra.
"Sonia? What the fuck, you're still alive. Oh my god, drop your skin care routine. The blonde hair suits you!" He says and Myra blinks at him in confusion. Eddie blushes.
"That's my wife not my mom, you fucking idiot." He grumbles and Richie's eyes went wide and he's obviously trying to suppress a joke and a laugh.
"Not my fault you married a carbon copy of you mother...and I was the one making jokes about fucking your mom. Meanwhile, you literally are!" Richie jokes and Eddie whacks him. Myra gasps in horror.
"I'm going home!" She states to Eddie, grabbing her jacket and leaving. Eddie grins and sighs with relief.
"THANK FUCK!" He cheers and Richie let's out an awkward laugh before handing Eddie his present. Eddie takes it." You didn't have to get me anything."
"Of course I did." Richie states, watching happily as Eddie unwraps it. It's a vinyl. A Foreigner vinyl including I Wanna Know What Love Is." Just incase...you didn't remember prom-
"I remember prom." Eddie says and Richie grins, following Eddie as he places the gift down on the present table." Wanna drink?"
"Sure thing!" Richie says and Eddie tosses him a cab of beer before he opens one himself. Drink number four.
The two talk as they sip of their drinks, reminiscing slightly and teasing eachother, slipping back into their old dynamic. They get another drink, Eddie's fifth and Richie's second, before they join Sharon onto the dance floor as a Panic! At The Disco song plays.
"It was Sharon's idea for me to come. She came to stage door at my show last night and invited me." Richie explains as they all dance. Eddie's dancing a little inappropriately up against Richie and Richie is trying his hardest to hold it together. He could feel his jeans going slightly tight and he coughs awkwardly, praying Eddie can't feel anything.
"You're wasted, Mr Kaspbrak!" Sharon chuckles. Eddie just sings along loudly to the song and Richie and Sharon chuckle." You not drinking?"
"Two drink limit, fathers rules." Richie responds and Sharon nods and then Eddie almost slips. Richie laughs and steadies him, a blush forming on both of their faces. Sharon smirks.
"Eds, why don't you show Rich around the office?" Sharon suggests. Eddie grins and nods enthusiastically.
"This way, Trashmouth!" He says, taking Richie's hand in his. Richie follows him willingly and they go upstairs.
The tour doesn't take too long and they eventually end in the storeroom, Eddie rambling about the different types of paper they have in there. Richie just admires him with a loving smile, a content feeling settled upon him.
"Yeah. Then there's the printer there, where we put the paper. You probably know what the printer does." Eddie rambles and Richie slowly walks over to him and stands infront of him, kissing distance away.
Eddie looks up into Richie's eyes, looking a little spooked. Richie smiles gently and just admires Eddie's facial features once more. Then he does what he's wanted to do for years. What backfired on prom night. He kisses Eddie gently. Eddie let's out a shocked squeak but then cups Richie's cheek. The two are soon messily making out, everything feeling desperate and hungry and there's a fire raging in Richie's stomach and his jeans feel tight.
"Eddie." Richie mumbles out, opening his eyes slightly. Eddie does the same." Need...assistance."
"You sure?" Eddie asks, pulling away slightly. Richie nods, looking a little embarrassed." Okay sure. I...I've never done it though. I might be...bad."
"It's fine." Richie sighs as Eddie fumbles to undo the comedians belt, kissing Richie's neck gently." Happy birthday, Kaspbrak."
