I lay in bed staring at nothing. My mind refused to slow down along with my eyes which also refused to shut. I wouldn't be getting any sleep tonight.
I was on my back partially covered by my sheet as I looked up toward the ceiling. I paid no attention to the dark as my mind began to wander into thoughts about the things that had been keeping me awake way too often lately. Only this time my entire body was fulfilled with worry.
Was she back yet, where did she go in the first place, who did she go with. God, I can't stop thinking about it. There was no way she wasn't back yet, still, there was something that was making my mind stride at an unstoppable rate, and i knew it would not stop until I was 100% sure she was alright.
My covers became suffocating, and for a time I leapt out of bed and paced across the floor. Stalked, really. An angry, deliberate movement of my legs as a travelled back and forth. But the floor was too cold for my bare feet, and I reluctantly returned to my warm bed.
I sat with my back to the headboard, spread out legs, a blanket pulled over my lap. I wasn't ready to lie back down and try to sleep again just yet.
"Can you please stop moving?" Estephany inquired irritated but I ignored her subsiding the desire to kick her out of my bedroom.
A few seconds later, my phone was in my hand, having semi-unconsciously grabbed it.
I scrolled down my contact list but then remembered I had her saved to my favourites hence it was easier to find her.
Waking someone just to tranquillize my inconsequential concerns wouldn't make me feel any better, but at the same time, just the mere thought of solely hearing her sweet voice already managed to soothe my exhilarating mind.
I pursed my lips and stared at her name glaring back at me from the small screen in my palm.
My hands shifted to a double grip on my phone, thumbs poised. Hesitation a moment longer, then a few swift touches.
Before I could stop myself I was calling her and she was answering on the second ring, as soon as a deep voice rumbled in my ear immediately I felt my soul be destroyed into pieces.
"Cristiano?"
"Why the fuck are you answering Melissa's phone?" I asked, my voice sounding too composed for my liking. My heart hammers against my chest as the possibilities flood my mind.
It couldn't possibly be what I was thinking could it.
"It's a long story." the background noise gets softer by the second and I could tell there were other people with him.
"Where the fuck are you?" I almost screamed. And tried my best to remain calm.
"Not that I think you even care but I don't know what time Melissa will be back tonight." his sharp tone made me want to smash this phone against the wall since sadly I didn't have his head to do that.
"Why is that?" as much as I feared the answer, I wouldn't be able to sleep unless I knew she would be alright.
"And why would that be any of your business?" he was really testing my patience, and I could tell he was enjoying every second of it. I clasped the phone with so much force that actually made me wonder how it didn't end up breaking.
"Ricardo I swear to God..."-
"Okay okay, if this will help you sleep at night, we're at the hospital and I don't think we're getting out of here any time soon."
My eyes widened, my heartbeat accelerated and there was now a buzzing in my brain. "what the fuck happened?" Within seconds of realizing I am on my feet, I clutched furiously at my chest, hoping that by a scratch or simple graze, my heart would stop racing, which sadly didn't happen.
