Melissa would never be able to properly describe the stir of emotions she felt as soon as she laid eyes on Cristiano, standing by the door, with a ridiculous disguise on but still managing to look mildly intimidating and handsome.
What the hell was he doing here. The question kept hovering and tormenting Melissa's mind, she couldn't possibly find one plausible reason why he would even consider coming all the way to the hospital just for her, especially at this late hour.
Their little staring contest continued for a few eternal seconds before he decided to eventually break it, which she mentally cursed him for it. Knowing her peace would come to an end.
"What do you mean you don't want to be around me anymore? You're going to quit?" he looked scared, but was he really? Melissa wondered.
"As much as I want that, I can't leave Junior." she knew it would be plain out selfish of her to just leave Junior's life out of the blue, especially considering how fragile his mental state once was. She knows he's gotten a lot better ever since she started working for them, but Melissa feared that her sudden departure would ruin all of the progress they've achieved throughout the last couple of weeks.
"I don't understand..."
"Look my job is to do the laundry, that's it, I don't get paid to endure the constant humiliation from you let alone from your girlfriend, who seems to hate me for some reason." she can hear his breathing, it's deep and slow, she can sense the wild thoughts going through his mind.
Melissa had indeed thought about leaving the mansion and perhaps try to move on with her life, but when she started to think about all the possible consequences it could probably come from it, she couldn't possibly go through it.
There's too much on the line, and Mel can't deny, the salary she earns will be a very good help in the future.
Especially now that her mother will be forced to leave the Hospital. It was hard enough to find a hospital that accepted permanent patients. How would she be able to find another one on such short notice? She was screwed.
"Why are you telling me this?" he asks glaring at her, gritting his teeth.
"I want you to stay away from me, I know sometimes it'll be inevitable because of Junior but I'm willing to try. that's my only request." She declared, watching his face very attentively and noticing his eyes dilate.
"I don't get it, why now? You were literally the one who brought up the deal for us to be friends." he shot back, Mel could tell he was getting irritated by his sudden change of tone, but she couldn't understand why.
"Yes and I've regretted it ever since, I realized we can't be friends, actually, I don't want to be your friend. I know you're probably used to messing around with someone and discarding them the very next day... But I'm not." She was trying to be as honest as possible, despite how foolish it might sound.
"Melissa..." She interrupted him.
"No Cristiano. I don't need to hear it. I know what happened between us was totally meaningless and that I shouldn't have mixed things but...." She immediately looked down at her hands, trying her best to restrain tears that were begging to come out. Why did he always make her cry?
"Ugh, I hate this," She grunted, feeling like the entire world was collapsing around her while her hands were completely tied.
"And...and what if I don't..." he stutters.
"Then I'll have no choice but to pack my things and leave." Her voice sounded broken, which to be honest summed up exactly how she felt.
"You're being ridiculous." She glared at him.
