Counselling Session

We all went back to our tent and just chilled for a bit. there was nothing else really to do anyways. "Hey Chase." Squid started to talk. "Did Mr. Sir tell you about the lizards?" I thought for a bit, trying to remember anything about lizards. " Nah, he didn't, why?" They all looked at each other. "Who's gonna tell her?" ZigZag asked. Nobody wanted to so he took the job. "They're called Yellow Spotted Lizards." "Did you know each one has 11 spots?" X-ray started. "Yeah but if you get close enough to count them," Squid said, then put his hand up to his throat and made a noise, "You'll die a painful death." "Well, I don't think I'm that stupid." I said to him, as he looked at me. "Well you never know darlin'," Squid continued. "It might just happen." I gave him look that I would be fine. Mom came in and told us it was time for us to have the session. They all groaned but they got up and left. Squid put his hand out for me again, and I took it with confidence.

We got there and the chairs were place very professionally and in a small circle. We all sat down, I sat in between Zero and Squid again. "So everyone, let's get started!" Pendanski told us and we all looked at him. He then looked at me and I got nervous. "So, you're Chase now? Got yourself a nickname." I looked at him and nodded. "Why Chase Boys?" He asked them, wanting an answer quickly. "We thought it would suit her." Squid answered. Pendanski took that as an answer and asked the boys why they're there. "Man, you know already. You ask every week!" X-ray said, annoyed. "I'm just asking because Robin doesn't know, do you Robin?" "Her name's Cha-" "No Mr. Pendanski." I interrupted Squid, indicating it was fine.

During the session, I kept catching Squid and Caveman staring at me. I wasn't sure why, I mean, it was nice to have the attention, but they kept staring at me over and over again. It got to the point where I just looked down, not wanting to know if they were staring at me or not. Finally, it ended and we could go back. I walked behind the group of boys because I just wanted to think. Think about what would happen tomorrow since it was gonna be my first day digging. I realised I didn't know how deep or wide the holes needed to be, so I asked Squid. "Hey Squid," he turned and waked with me. "How deep do the holes have to be? because Mr. Sir didn't say." He looked at me then said "They didn't tell you a lot, did they?" I shook my head to say "No". He smiled and then said "5 - Feet - Deep and 5 - Feet - Wide, that's the measurements. You'll use your shovel as your measuring stick." I nodded to say that I got that all in.

"Thanks." I gave him a small smile and told him that he could go back. "Nah, I'll stay with you. Besides, they're talking about how hot the Warden would look. I mean, we've never seen the Warden, we only know that she's a girl, so they make up scenarios and theories on what she looks like." He laughed at what he said, and I laughed with him. We made it to the tent and got dressed. I could feel their eyes on me so I said "Turn Boys." They did as they were told and I quickly put on a black shirt with some black shorts. I told the boys I was done and they turned around again. They all said "Night" to each other and fell asleep fast. I, on the other hand, couldn't sleep at all. I stayed up thinking about what happened earlier today, in the wreck room. I still wanted to punch him in the face until he was bleeding.

I went outside to get some fresh air and try to calm myself down. "Hey." I hear a voice behind me, it was Caveman. "Can't sleep either?" I asked him ad he shook his head to say "No". We sat in silence, but it wasn't awkward. It gave me a sense of comfort, just like at home. I didn't say that to him, I mean the last thing I needed was embarrassment. " Thanks for not laughing at the mess haul today." I told him, with a slight smile. He smiled back and said "No problem. I mean, they laughed when I told them that as well, so I didn't wanna put you through the same thing." He stood up and put his hand out for me to grab onto, and I did. "We should get some sleep, we gotta get up to dig in a couple hours." I nodded and we both went back inside. I liked how Caveman gave me a sense of Home and how it wasn't awkward. I went to sleep, thinking about the way Squid and Caveman were staring at me earlier. I liked the attention.
