Last night wasn't as terrible as the past few full moons have been. I had a few scratches on my neck and arm, but nothing too deep. However, for old times sake, I decided to head to the hospital wing to visit with Madam Pomfrey before making my way back to my own quarters to Selena.
I opened the doors and looked around. There were two beds occupied by students, and Poppy was in her office filing reports in her medical logs book. I knocked on the doorframe to get her attention. "Good morning, Madam Pomfrey," I greeted her with a warm smile.
"Oh, Remus! It's good to see you!" she responded with an equally bright smile. She then lowered her voice, "Did everything go alright last night?"
She was one of the few people that never discriminated against me because of my lycanthropy; always awake and alert when I'd come to her after every full moon whenever I was a student. She always took great care of me, making sure every cut, scar, and bruise healed properly. In all honesty, she was more of a caring and nurturing figure than my own mother. I'll forever owe her so much.
I nodded, leaning against the doorframe as I still managed to feel a bit weak. "Everything went fine. Just a few minor cuts, but nothing I can't take care of myself," I reassured her. "That reminds me, could I have another roll of bandages? 'Lena likes to keep them handy for days after the full moon," I requested.
Poppy quickly stood up from her desk, moving to a closet of medical supplies and rummaging through its contents. "And how is Miss Knight?" she asked me before pulling out what I had asked for. "I haven't seen her as much this year. I'm assuming she knows of your...condition now, yes?" she tossed the roll my way before grabbing another and repeating her actions. I caught both of them with ease.
"Yes, ma'am. We're actually together now," I answered her as I put the rolls in my pockets, "and she takes care of me after these nights. Stays up to wait for me, makes my cup of tea...I'm really grateful to have her," I smiled to myself as I reminisced about my love.
The matron took her seat back at her desk, returning to her previous task. "That's lovely to hear. I remember how close you two were as students," she replied. Her dainty hand dipped her quill back into its jar of ink before resuming the logs. "I don't want to keep you too long, Remus, so I'll be looking forward to our next visit. Take care for now," she waved me out of her office with that sweet, calm smile of hers.
I bid her a good rest of her day before taking my leave. It would be another boring day with 'Lena being in classes and having nothing to busy myself with; I could always reread one of my novels, go on a walk through the forest, send my woman another love note while she taught...the opportunities were endless, but I was only looking forward to being with her when daybreak finally came.
