I followed the dark-skinned boy who had revealed himself to be the leader of this place that they named the 'glade'. Alby spread his arms out, palms up with a proud smile on his face. "This place is called the Glade, all right? It's where we live, where we eat, where we sleep—we call ourselves the Gladers. And every month the box comes up" Alby said looking me directly in the eyes.
"The box?" I questioned
"Yea the box, the thing you came out of. Every month it sends up fresh supplies and a new greenie, this month that's you congratulations," Alby said slapping me on the shoulder.
"Sent up, sent up by who?" I questioned I could feel the slight panic in my voice, Alby sighs for a second before he begins to look defeated.
"We don't know" Alby sighs but before anything else can be said a new voice interrupts
"Aye you alright Alby," the funny voice says and Alby let out a small chuckle as a light-haired boy with a smile on his face walks up to us.
"green bean meet Newt, Newt this is green bean," Alby said as the boy named Newt suddenly reached out his hand waiting for a hand shake. I could already tell Newt was the chiller one out of the two I studied him as i reached out to grab Newts hand to shake.
"When I'm not around he's in charge," Alby said with a proud smile on his face.
"Well, it's a good thing you're never gone then" Newt smirked as he pointed a finger towards me grinning.
"That was some dash you made earlier. For a second, I you had the to be a runner...till you face-planted." He says breaking out into a small chuckle the words that came out of Newts mouth were confusing
"Wait, a "runner"?" I questioned, Alby smiled before turning to Newt
"Newt, do me a favour. Go find Chuck and Ash" Alby said slightly tapping Newt on the shoulder the blonde boy smiled.
"All right. She won't be impressed to have Chuck being taken away from her, that woman treats him like a bloody son" He replied laughing hard enough to make his shoulders start shaking.
"Thanks," Alby said in a cut tone as if he didn't want Newt revealing anymore to me. As soon as Newt began to walk past, Alby slapped my shoulders, turning me around to continue walking.
"Look, I'm sorry to rush this. You came up a late, and there's a lot to do. We got special planned tonight." Alby says, causing his face to turn into a bright smile.
Alby finally reached a ladder
"I hope you're not afraid of heights. Let's go. Come on." Alby says turning back to look at me I follow him up the ladder silently by the time I got up he was already looking over the edge if I was being honest there wasn't much to look at just four walls keeping us in
"This is all we got. We've worked hard for it. If you respect this place... you and I will get just fine." Alby says a serious expression on his face
"What's out there?" I whisper suddenly trying to look over the walls, I turn back to Alby whose lips have thinned in a line
"We only have three rules. First, do your part—no time for any freeloaders. Second, never harm Glader. None of this works unless we have trust. Most importantly... never go beyond those walls. Do you understand me, Greenie?" Alby says I only noticed now that he moved slightly closer. I nodded slightly.
"Hey, Alby!" a voice yells from down bellow. Chuck was about twelve or thirteen years old. He was short and pudgy, Chuck has curly brown short hair and brown eyes and was a chubby kid. But it wasn't him who drew my attention; it was the woman standing next to him.
