"Seriously?" Frypan says, and I can't help but let out a snort looking at the exit sign. Thomas moves around in front of me to open the door, the first thing I see is blood and people in white laying on the floor dead.
"What happened here?" Someone whispers as we enter a new space with a bunch of computers and monitors. I stand next to Newt and place my hand on his shoulder as he looks at one of the screens in disbelief.
"So they were watching us. This whole time." He whispers I press a kiss down to his shoulder, but as I look back up I see a room, not just any room, but the same white room I was in when I was asleep, I feel a set of eyes staring at me and see the look of guilt on Thomas's face. I guess he did remember. Suddenly Thomas presses a button that starts up a screen that has an older woman filling the screen.
"Hello. My name is Doctor Ava Paige. I'm Director of Operations of the World Catastrophe Killzone Department. If you're watching this, that means you have successfully completed the Maze Trials. I wish I could be there in person to congratulate you... but circumstances seem to have prevented it. I'm sure by now; you must all be very confused... angry frightened. I can only assure you that everything that's happened to you... everything we've done to you... it was all done for a reason. You won't remember... but the Sun has scorched our world. Billions of lives lost to fire... famine... suffering on a scale. The fallout was unimaginable. What came after was worse. We called it the Flare. A deadly virus that attacks the brain." The screen switches to a man who looks like he's been stung and then the screen returns to her. There looks to be people running around in a panic in the background, but the woman shows no reaction that would suggest she knew what was going on behind her.
"It is violent...unpredictable...incurable. Or so we thought. In time, a new generation emerged that could survive the virus. Suddenly, there was a reason to hope for a cure. But finding it would not be easy. The young would have to be tested, even sacrificed... inside harsh environments... where their brain activity could be studied. All in an effort to understand. What makes them different...what makes you different. You may not realise it... but you're very important. Unfortunately, your trials have only just begun. As you will no doubt soon discover, not everyone agrees with our methods. Progress is slow; people are scared. It may be too late for us... for me... but not for you. The outside world awaits. Remember..." she begins, but then she presses what looks like a gun to her head.
"Wicked is good." She says as she presses the gun and her brains fly out. I look to my side seeing her chair where she's now slumped overlooking very much as dead as she did in the video. I walk closer to her feeling the others follow me, that's when the sound of a door opening begins.
"Is it over?" Chuck asks
"She said we were important. What are we supposed to do now?" Newt asks curiously
"I don't know," Thomas says
"Let's get out of here," I whisper.
"No." a voice thunders I turn around to see Gally standing there shaking like he was sick.
"Gally?" Thomas says stepping out to him, but I grab his arm to stop him
"Don't. He's been stung." I whisper
