Things you should know

Hello, peanuts!!

Since this is an a/b/o dynamics AU, everything is totally made-up. Keep in mind that each author uses their imagination to build up abo fics, whether it be the pack rituals or the bonding process.

So, I figured I'd tell ya what is my abo world made of.

• COURTING PROCESS

First of all, I am well aware that courting is a process which takes place before the wedding where the couple take time to get to know each other well. But in this world, bonding is more significant than marriage, almost equivalent to what we value a marriage as. So, in this universe, courting is a process which takes place between two wolves who wish to bond soon.

• WEREWOLVES

This is not just an abo fic, they're actual werewolves here. So, they will shift into a wolf every once in a while. 

• ALPHA, BETA, AND OMEGA

Wolves like to reside in packs, and this fic shows nothing different from that. A pack generally consists of three sorts of wolves: Alphas, betas and omegas. While, the wolves do reside in pack, that simply doesn't mean they all live in a simple pack house.

Everyone has their own house, and they all work hard to earn for themselves. But that doesn't mean they're not close, a pack is a family and they all gather around during full moons to perform pack rituals which commonly consists of an Alpha hunting for their Omega.

By hunting for their Omega, an Alpha shows their capabilities of providing for their future pups.

Betas, though are very common, don't have anything in common with Alphas and Omegas. They're just there with their almost normal selves. They don't suffer from heats or ruts, and are often considered useless in some packs.

• HEATS AND RUTS

An Omega generally goes through quarterly heats, meaning they suffer through it four times a year. Their heat is a period of time where their fertility is at its peak, and is also commonly referred to as the breeding season.

Ruts are very alike to heats: they're also quarterly and can help the Alpha impregnate their Omega faster as their sexdrive increases during the span and so does their feral instincts.

An Alpha/Omega pair can only bond if they're both suffering from their heat and rut at the same time.

• BOND MARK

Only an Alpha can initiate the bonding process. Generally, the Alpha first bites and then the Omega follows after. The mark can connect them thoroughly and though, they can't talk with each other through a mindlink, they can easily feel what the other is feeling. For instance, if your mate is feeling sad, the bond mark will make sure you're fully aware of the situation.

• SCENTING AND NESTING

Scenting and nesting are the things that almost every wolf does.

A wolf scents its possessions to mark its territory. Nesting though, is a completely different process.

Keep in mind that an Alpha nesting is totally different to an Omega nesting. An Omega nests when they're pregnant, to make sure their home is clean and safe for their future pups. An Omega also makes a nest of their alpha's belongings to ground themselves during their lows. Whereas, an Alpha makes a big nest of comfortable bedding which is fully scented by them, for their Omega and pups once their pup is born. It is to simply ensure their own selves that their newborn and their Omega are safe and sound. An Alpha also makes a nest of their Omega's belongings if they're feeling lonely.

• HOW ARE WOLVES' SECONDARY GENDERS CLASSIFIED AT THE TIME OF BIRTH?

Unlike, most of the fics where the characters are presented once they hit puberty by getting their rut or heat, in this fic, wolves are already classified at the time of birth.

It's a very simple thing actually. Alphas have such a strong sense of smell that they can easily smell their own pup and judge whether its an Alpha or Omega, or a useless beta.

Alphas usually tend to have a more earthy or musky scent whereas, Omegas tend to have sweeter and warmer scents. Betas, however don't have particular scents, so if your baby doesn't smell like anything to you, don't think you need to get your nose checked.
