Cinders lumbered through the forest ahead, before at last coming to a stop. Grim floated a few inches above the ground, and Allison was beside him
"First stop, entrance to the Forest!" Cinders announced.
Ally curiously stepped in. Around them, the forest was darker colored. The trees looked almost blue, and the woods practically sprang to life. Organisms of unknown origin surrounded them, their appearances spirit-like. An ocassional animal of some sort padded up to the trio, taking a light sniff to say their version of hello, before bouncing off to their own space.
"Right this way!" The small creature announced. Cinders once again lumbered away, with Grim and Allison following him. He knew something was wrong with that little vermin; something didn't feel right. This place was called the Forest of Lies for a reason, after all.
What if he was lying to them as well?
It seemed like forever before they reached a dead end, looking around the area. In front of them was a huge gorge, which almost looked bottomless. Cinders didn't move a muscle, instead staring into it.
"Cinders. . ? Are you okay?" Ally questioned.
Cinders laughed.
And laughed.
And Laughed.
"Oh you fell for it so easily! Just like so many others!" Cinders cackled.
"I'm not just some lost little creature trying to get you away from Solomon's game. . I'm here to stop you from winning it!" They screeched. In an instant, the little critter's body became taller. Its fingers were more slender, and sharp. Its jaw was unhinged, its legs animal-like.
"Get out of the way!" Grim shouted. He pulled Allison out of the way, just as the monster that used to be Cinders lunged for the little girl's throat. It growled, its white glowing eyes full of malice and hate.
Allison hugged her music box, sobbing. The cryptid cackled, as if her fear was the most amusing thing he had ever seen. Grim quickly began playing the music box.
Suddenly, Cinders reacted. They screeched as if in agony while the music played, trying to cover their non-existant ears.
"The eyes, Allison! Go for their eyes!" Grim ordered. Though she was terrified, the young lady grasped the handles of her daggers, jumping up as she gouged out the creature's eyes, a deafening screech filling the dead air.
Thick, blue liquid drained from the now mutilated sockets as Ally yanked out the weapons, and the cryptid collapsed to the floor, lifeless as a rock. Grim held out his hand.
"Do you trust me. . ?"
Allison looked up at him. Then she nodded.
Grim took her small, delicate hand in his, as they continued walking.
"That was far too close. ." He began.
"You told me to do it!"
"I know, I know! I apologize. You were scared, and I ignored it." Grim said softly.
He muttered another apology, as he hugged her tightly. He'd pick her up, and carry her across the gorge.
After that, they refused to even interact with anybody in that forest anymore.
