CHAPTER FOUR: FRIEND OR FOE-UH? (CONT)
***
The day went by slowly. When the final bell rang, I grabbed my luggage from Jake's car and headed to the library before anyone could ask me why I wasn't going on the trip. Michael appeared, who knows from where, as soon as I arrived.
"You are early." He motioned for me to follow him to a portion of the back of the library where the view from prying eyes was obscured by the nearby empty tennis courts.
"Is that a problem? After all, you did wreck a week's worth of fun for me by making me come here. I figured I'd get the torment started now."
"I am cognizant of the fact Alyssa and Sophia were unsettled but they will forgive you." He knew their names. What a surprise? Not! I couldn't believe I had thought his accent was so hot considering how pretentious and annoying it sounded now.
"So, why am I here?"
"You deserve to know what is transpiring and who I am."
"Yes, I do."
"I am...." He ran his fingers through his dark hair and paced.
"You are...what?"
"It is not easy to explain."
I watched him hesitate and wondered if I would miss my week of skiing with friends while I waited for him to tell me his secret. "Well?"
"It is a bit inconceivable."
Inconceivable? "Are you at least human?"
Slight dimples appeared. "Yes, I am human but it's complicated."
He still had on one of those old-fashion suits on again but this one was gray with black embroidery. His black hair was tousled but still accentuated his light eyes.
He started again, "I am...."
I waited.
And waited.
"Oh my gosh! Just spit it out. You are...a vampire?"
"No." His dimples very apparent now.
"A werewolf?" I fired back faster and louder.
"No." His voice increased in speed and sound as mine did.
"A superhero?"
"No."
"Alien?"
"No."
"Wizard?"
"No."
"Then, what?"
"I am from an alternate world," He said, almost shouting.
"What?" I took a step backwards. He was cuckoo and not just for Cocoa Puffs.
"I believe in your physics course this week you heard mention of alternate realities. I am from a different dimension. As is Spyder, the scoundrel that attacked you."
"There are so many things wrong with what you just said I don't know where to begin," The science geek side of me wanted to believe him and get excited about the possibility of living my own version of a Doctor Who episode. However, the teenage-girl-raised-by-an-overprotective-mom portion of my personality realized I was alone with a strange man. "I don't care if you can do all those running-and-disappearing-into-black-fog tricks, I can't believe I blew off a trip for a guy who belongs in an insane asylum."
"I know this information is difficult to accept but I am from another Earth. I was sent here to protect you."
"Who do you think I am? A gullible high school girl?"
